Fisker Ocean Hit by Fifth Recall: Regenerative Braking Glitch Prompts Software Update for Electric SUVs
The Fisker Ocean is facing another recall, this occasion on account of a problem potentially causing an unforeseen decrease in the vehicle's regenerative braking capability.
The NHTSA has announced a recall for 7,745 Ocean electric SUVs, spanning the 2023 and 2024 model years – the sole years the Ocean model was on sale prior to Fisker going bankrupt. The recall is due to a software glitch that could potentially lead to weaker regenerative braking performance when the vehicle goes over bumps during deceleration.

Vehicle operators can continue to utilize traditional braking systems, and standard functionality is restored in less than a second, as per the recall notices. Nonetheless, the diminished regenerative braking might necessitate unanticipated application of the brakes by drivers. Fisker has acknowledged a single injury incident connected to this problem.
Fisker is set to roll out a software update remotely to fix the problem. The company aims to send out letters to vehicle owners on October 14, 2024, to inform them. However, owners can reach out to Fisker's customer support in the interim at 1-844-347-5371. The internal code for this recall by Fisker is TSB10062408.
The 2023 Model of the Fisk
The Ocean has undergone its fifth recall since the beginning of its manufacturing period, with three of these recalls affecting models from both 2023 and 2024. This includes a recall concerning 8,204 U.S. vehicles to fix door handles that were jamming and potentially stopping the doors from being opened. Production and certain development tasks were outsourced to Magna, which constructed the Ocean at its Graz, Austria plant, where it also produced the now-discontinued Jaguar I-Pace.
Manufacturing initially struggled to gain momentum and when it eventually did, sluggish sales exposed Fisker to risk. In July, amidst bankruptcy, the car manufacturer sought approval from the bankruptcy court to offload remaining vehicles to a car rental firm at a price of $14,000 per car. A subsequent evaluation by Green Car Reports revealed that the Ocean model was stuck in its development phase, flaunting an attractive exterior yet lacking in technological advancements due to pending software upgrades that might remain outstanding.
