Fisker Initiates Global Recall of Over 12,000 Ocean SUVs Amid Door Mechanism Defect Concerns
Fisker has issued a recall for 12,523 of its Ocean electric SUVs worldwide due to a defect that may result in the exterior door handles jamming and not opening, as declared by the company on Friday.
The company has issued a recall notice affecting a total of 12,523 cars, with 8,204 located in the United States, 513 in Canada, and the remaining 3,806 spread across European countries, as stated in a press announcement. Within the U.S., the affected Oceans include those from model years 2023 and 2024. Fisker predicts that approximately 2.5% of these vehicles may exhibit the fault, which is believed to be due to a faulty mechanism.

Fisker is set to examine each of the four external door handles on vehicles that may be impacted, using a "dedicated force inspection instrument" supplied by the company that provides the door handles. Should replacements be needed, they will be carried out at no cost to the owner.
Dispatch of correspondence to vehicle proprietors is scheduled for the 30th of August. Proprietors have the option to reach out to Fisker directly by dialing 1-844-347-5371 and mentioning the recall code TSB55062401, or they can get in touch with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) by calling 1-888-327-4236, citing the recall identifier 24V466000.
2023 Model of the Fisker Ocean
For the third time this month, the Ocean model has been called back, while the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is currently examining four separate issues concerning the car, reports Reuters. Earlier in the month, Fisker, the company behind the Ocean, declared bankruptcy. Production and certain aspects of the car's development were outsourced to Magna, who constructed the Ocean in their Austrian plant, the same location where the Jaguar I-Pace is put together.
Manufacturing of the Ocean model initially experienced a gradual start. However, when production finally picked up pace, the demand didn't follow, leading to an excess of unsold electric vehicles. In response, Fisker halted the production line in March to reduce the surplus and to secure more capital. Concurrently, Fisker reduced their prices significantly, by as much as $24,000. Meanwhile, amid rising worries regarding the vehicle's quality, Tesla started to reject the Ocean model for trade-in deals.
