Ferrari’s Bold Gamble Pays Off: Vasseur’s Instinctive Strategy Secures Monumental Italian GP Victory
Ferrari leader's approach praised for differing from "technical experts"
"Fred is a competitor. He isn't bound by computer-driven decisions."
Fred Vasseur of Ferrari has been praised for his victorious pitstop tactic during the previous weekend's F1 Italian Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc trailed the front-runner, Oscar Piastri of McLaren, by five seconds when Piastri made his second pit stop.
Ferrari chose to stick with a single pit stop plan for Leclerc, leading to an amazing victory at their home Grand Prix, much to the delight of the Tifosi.
"Nico Rosberg attributed that action to Fred's impact during his conversation with the Sky F1 podcast, discussing the assistance provided to Leclerc."
Fred is a racing enthusiast. He doesn't rely on digital guidance; instead, he navigates based on his instincts and vision.
"It offers a refreshing change from the tech enthusiasts glued to their monitors, often losing touch with the actual world outside!"
Moreover, opting for that course of action represented a significant choice, given the odds of securing a victory were below 50%.
"Taking a risk, evaluating the probabilities, they declared, 'We're in Monza, and there's a 35-40% chance if we proceed with this plan…'"
Ferrari's unexpected chance at F1 championship
This season, Ferrari has secured three grand prix victories, with Carlos Sainz clinching a win in Singapore in the latter part of 2023.
Sainz secured another victory in Australia this year, while Leclerc triumphed at his home Grand Prix in Monaco for the first time.
Leclerc's triumph at Monza the previous weekend marked yet another deeply moving win for the Italian carmaker.
"Natalie Pinkham stated, “Charles has undeniably secured his first victory in Monaco, and the team triumphed at Monza.”
"They are seeking greater consistency. Their major issue has been the fluctuation throughout the season, struggling to comprehend the vehicle."
"They've expressed confusion, admitting 'we don't understand' even when the car performs well, they're puzzled about the source of its speed. This has been bothering them.
"These images are powerful and will serve to unite the team for 2025 and the future."
Ferrari currently trails the front-runner Red Bull by 39 points in the constructors' standings.
Rosberg maintains that victory remains a possibility, stating, "Absolutely, it's within reach."
"Given their current performance, they're not the top picks. McLaren is decidedly the frontrunner."
"The performance hinges on Ferrari's improvement. While promising, Monza stands as an exception. Will it maintain its appeal across different venues?"
"If it's performing effectively, they stand an outsider's chance at winning the constructors' championship."
Leclerc advised prudence following his victory at the Italian Grand Prix, in light of the major upgrade aimed at resolving Ferrari's bouncing issues.
