Ferrari to Introduce $7,500 Battery Subscription for Upcoming EVs Amidst Extended Warranty Plans

Published

on

Ferrari is considering a $7,500 subscription plan for services and replacements related to the battery of its upcoming electric vehicle. Set to debut next year, Ferrari's maiden EV offering could include an additional warranty for the battery, aiming to alleviate potential worries for customers transitioning from traditional gasoline vehicles to electric. This move might also create a fresh income stream for the firm.

According to sources referenced by Bloomberg on Wednesday, Ferrari is preparing to offer an extended battery warranty for its upcoming electric and hybrid vehicles.

According to the document, an annual membership for the warranty is proposed, with a price tag close to 7,000 euros (about $7,500). This warranty would encompass the entire spectrum of battery maintenance and any faults associated with the battery.

The plan will encompass periodic battery swaps at the eight-year mark to guarantee consistent performance throughout the vehicle's lifespan. This is crucial for Ferrari, as their vehicles typically remain operational for many years.

Ferrari presently offers a three-year warranty on all its vehicles straight from the factory. The brand enhances this offering to a five-year warranty for its hybrid vehicles, specifically safeguarding the battery and its associated parts. Bloomberg's informants indicate that Ferrari's electric vehicle lineup will be granted this same foundational warranty protection.

The majority of car manufacturers producing electric vehicles are providing battery warranties for about eight years, which includes companies exclusively focused on EVs such as Rivian and Tesla.

Ferrari has been tight-lipped about its inaugural electric vehicle, only revealing that it's set to launch towards the end of 2025 with mass production kicking off in 2026. Speculation suggests it will be a sleek SUV, similar to the Purosangue which features a V-12 engine, and will carry a price tag exceeding $500,000, as per a recent Reuters article. This would place it amongst the priciest standard production Ferraris on the market.

Ferrari's electronic structure

The manufacturing of the electric vehicle (EV), as well as subsequent EV models that the car manufacturer is believed to be developing, will take place at a newly established facility known as the E-Building. This site is situated adjacent to Ferrari's current factory in Maranello, Italy. The versatile manufacturing setup at the plant is designed to accommodate the assembly of gasoline-powered, hybrid, and electric vehicles, enabling Ferrari to tailor its production based on market demand.

The expansion of the facility will enable Ferrari to boost its yearly output to around 20,000 cars, a significant rise from the existing 14,000.
