Ducati Pledges Full Support for Jorge Martin in MotoGP Title Campaign Despite 2025 Aprilia Move
Ducati commits to fully supporting Jorge Martin in his MotoGP title quest, even though he has signed with Aprilia for 2025.
Davide Tardozzi, the manager of the Ducati Lenovo team, asserts that MotoGP championship frontrunner Jorge Martin will still be fully equipped to compete for the title, even after committing to Aprilia.
Martin, who is presently ahead of Ducati's current double champion Francesco Bagnaia by 18 points, has been competing with Marc Marquez for the coveted official position alongside the Italian in 2025.
The weekend at Mugello kicked off with speculation that Martin had been chosen, but it concluded dramatically with the young Spanish rider committing to Aprilia, as Ducati shifted its interest to Marquez.
However, if Martin, who finished second to Bagnaia last season, maintains his lead in the standings, he will bring the #1 plate to Aprilia for the 2025 season.
Davide Tardozzi informed CycleWorld.com that Gigi Dall’Igna has explicitly stated that Jorge Martin will continue to receive all necessary support to secure victories and contend for the championship.
Martin is not the sole young rider to leave the Desmosedici after this season; Enea Bastianini, Bagnaia's present teammate, is also set to move on. There are speculations that Bastianini will be joining KTM.
"We deeply regret the departure of Martin and Enea, two highly valued riders in whom we have great faith," Tardozzi stated.
"Jorge is currently at the top of the championship standings, while Enea has made significant contributions to our team. He excelled initially with the satellite team and later with the main team. Unfortunately, he experienced a setback last year due to an accident in the first race, which hindered his ability to recover fully for the remainder of the season."
"Although we wanted to retain them, ultimately we were forced to decide."
Even though Martin, Bagnaia, and Marquez are at the forefront of the title race, Tardozzi believes that Bastianini, who is presently in fourth place and 57 points behind Martin, could still contend for the championship.
“We can’t dismiss Bastianini as a contender for the championship. Indeed, we possess a winning combination this year with our highly competitive bike and the talented riders on our team.”
When questioned directly about who will clinch this year’s MotoGP World Championship, Tardozzi responded:
"The season is far from over and a lot can change. Martín is currently in the lead, but Pecco has demonstrated his strength. He wears the #1 and we hope he can validate that position for the third time."
