Ducati Corse Secures Historic Line-Up: Marquez Joins Bagnaia for a Dream Team
Gigi Dall’Igna firmly believes Marquez is the ideal selection | “Ducati’s most outstanding team ever”
Gigi Dall’Igna states, "In my view, choosing Marquez is a decision I stand firmly behind. Our team is unparalleled in Ducati's storied past."
Ducati Corse's chief, Gigi Dall’Igna, confessed to experiencing several restless nights and repeatedly reconsidering his decision regarding whom to award the prestigious 2025 factory seat between championship frontrunner Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez.
In the end, Dall’Igna is firmly of the opinion that Marquez is the ideal selection. With Marquez holding six MotoGP championships and his soon-to-be teammate Francesco Bagnaia possessing two, he is confident that Ducati has assembled its most formidable pairing to date.
"Dall'Igna expressed to SkySport.it his anticipation for a night of true rest, marking it as potentially the first."
Making this choice was complex, considering both the athletic aspect and the personal aspect, given that no cyclist has ever stepped out of bounds. There have been no instances of misconduct.
"Over the past few days, my opinion has shifted multiple times, yet ultimately, I am assured that selecting Marquez is the correct decision. This is the finest team Ducati has ever assembled, and I couldn't be more pleased."
"Dall'Igna mentioned that the agreement was reached on Sunday at Mugello. “The details of the contract needed to be quickly addressed due to our tight schedule,” he elaborated.
Dall’Igna acknowledged Ducati's intention to retain Martin and Marquez.
Despite the eight-time world champion dismissing the idea of moving to Pramac, and an opportunity for a factory bike at Gresini seemingly off the table, they fully committed to pursuing the #93.
"We aimed to retain both Martin and Marquez, understanding from the outset the challenge it would pose," he stated. "We persisted until we ultimately acknowledged the impossibility of our goal."
"The resolution involved choosing either Martin or Marquez to back. Though it was a tough choice, ultimately, we decided to go with Marc."
Marquez's capability to distinguish himself among the eight Ducati competitors, even with only seven Grand Prix races under his belt on a previous year's Desmosedici, shifted the scales to his advantage.
"Dall'Igna mentioned the realization, gained over the past few months, that he has the ability to impact our bike positively."
"Our bicycle has achieved remarkable heights, and having two riders of the caliber of Marquez and Bagnaia on our team significantly boosts our prospects of clinching the World Championship, which remains our ultimate objective."
Dall'Igna believes that there's not much to separate the upcoming team partners, Bagnaia and Marquez, who stand out as the only riders on the grid to have won multiple championships in the premier class.
"Dall'Igna mentioned, "Both are champions. Their resolve is strong. Each has faced adversity and understands enduring hardship. It is during such times that the essence of a champion becomes evident. I believe they will compete on a level playing field."
On Monday night, Martin finalized his agreement with Aprilia, meanwhile, it's highly expected that Bagnaia's present colleague, Enea Bastianini, will make a move to KTM by securing a spot at Tech3.
