Chery Automobiles Teases Urban-SUV J5 Design Sketch: Omoda & Jaecoo’s Latest Entry Beneath the J7 and J8
Omoda & Jaecoo: Initial Design Sketch for Urban SUV J5
New model to be positioned below the J7 and J8…
Initially, Chery Automobile, one of the major car exporters, planned to launch its brands Omoda and Jaecoo in the latter half of 2024, but so far, there has been no action.
The Chinese conglomerate, which includes brands like Exceed, Jetour, and Luxeed among others, decided to give a preview of their plans while the Omoda 5 and Jaecoo J7 are still pending their launch in Germany. Embracing the idea that anticipation is the most enjoyable part, they're eager to showcase what they have in store.

It seems they haven't yet tuned into Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, who back in '81 were already aware that "The Waiting" is often the most challenging part of any endeavor. But let's shift gears back to the automobile: The brand Jaecoo, a blend of the words "Hunter" and "Cool" (everyone, repeat after me: Yah-coo), has unveiled a fresh design concept for their Jaecoo J5. The idea seems to be, even though you can't purchase any of our new cars just yet, here's a glimpse of another one on the horizon.
The name is intended to convey both a penchant for off-roading and the effortless urban chic. Us city dwellers, we'll just leave it at that. The Jaecoo J5 falls into the lineup below the J7 and J8 models (you can see the J7 in the photo gallery above).
The image depicts a rather basic design outline, which primarily features a level roof profile and a tall, sporty beltline. Essentially, it's a mini version of the J7. The drawing is completed with massive wheels and the customary rear light strip. This early design could easily be mistaken for a concept from the studios of Skoda, VW, Seat, or similar brands. Perhaps an employee might shed more light on this? Charlie Zhang, could you take the lead, please?
"With the unveiling of the J5's design sketches, we catch a glimpse of an elegant new model series that continues the natural aesthetic of the Jaecoo family style," stated the Assistant President of Chery Automobile.
What other developments are happening with Chinese brands?
The design language embodies the concept known as 'Origin of Nature', here drawing inspiration from the rocky summits of snow-capped mountains and the babbling streams beneath snowy plains, to craft a natural representation of 'strength and gentleness in harmony'. The use of straight lines in the design conveys nature's ascending force into every facet of the sculpture, presenting a clean and uncomplicated surface alongside a contoured body brimming with life.
Mountains, melting snow, snow-covered plains, vitality – Do you get it? No? Well, then let's all just wait together for the arrival of the first vehicles in Germany from the dual brand Omoda and Jaecoo, and we'll touch base again once we have something more tangible to discuss.
