Cadillac Unveils Opulent Velocity Concept: A Glimpse into the Future of Performance EV Luxury
Cadillac is contemplating a shift towards high-end luxury, potentially powered by electric engines. After creating the costly $340,000 Celestiq EV and teasing an electric convertible named the Sollei concept, Cadillac revealed the Cadillac Opulent Velocity Concept during Monterey Car Week on Friday. This concept promises extravagant opulence combined with thrilling speed, as implied by its name.
Cadillac promotes the idea as the epitome of a luxury hypercar with no emissions and the pinnacle of electric luxury performance. The Opulent Velocity Concept, described by Cadillac as a 2+2 coupe, draws its design inspiration from the world of racing, merging the essence of a hypercar with the finesse of luxury. The design echoes the elegant lines of the 1930s Delahayes.

Creative head Brian Nesbitt described the vehicle as a glimpse into the future style of electric cars. The vehicle boasts an elongated, sleek silhouette, positioned low to the ground, featuring innovative doors that open like a butterfly's wings for both rows of passengers, and bodywork that appears seamlessly wrapped around the frame. At the front, a sharp, beak-like projection sits atop a narrow grille, complemented by the brand's iconic vertical lighting. The roofline culminates in a rear window characterized by horizontal lines and a partially divided appearance, while the tail end presents a continuous, thin, and upward-curving light strip. The lights, grille, and taillights are all embellished with crystal cuts. The car's exterior shines in a golden hue named Gilded Pearl.
Cadillac's Luxurious Speed Design Idea
Within the vehicle, the design is futuristic, featuring slender contoured seats, a unique steering wheel resembling a yoke that has a built-in display, a high-tech head-up display that enhances reality, and a broad display screen capable of presenting information in 3D. The interior is finished in a deep blue shade named Selene, complemented by metallic surfaces with a brushed appearance. Additionally, the driver's area incorporates 3D printed components and incorporates flax materials beneath a layer of shimmering silver specks.
The design aims to offer dual driving modes. In the Luxurious mode, a Level 4 autonomous driving feature would be operational in designated zones, enabling drivers to divert their attention from the road and regain control only upon request. Additionally, this mode would incorporate elements such as art, entertainment, and mood lighting to provide a calming atmosphere for passengers. During this autonomous mode, the steering wheel and pedals would be designed to withdraw into the dashboard.
The Velocity mode offers an exhilarating ride reminiscent of the brand's high-performance Blackwing series. This feature would incorporate a "ghost car" visual on the head-up display to illustrate the optimal racing path, aiding drivers in shaving seconds off their circuit times, similar to what's seen in many racing video games. Cadillac notes that this setting would also deliver insights on road layouts and surface status while granting drivers the ability to adjust the dynamic aero elements and suspension firmness.
Cadillac did not disclose any details regarding the dynamic aerodynamic elements, nor did they provide specifics on the engine or chassis setup. The company merely mentioned that the Opulent Velocity Concept will incorporate an electric engine, which is expected to deliver substantial power.
The luxurious and costly Celestiq suggests that Cadillac has the capability to manufacture a vehicle similar to the Opulent Velocity Concept, potentially equipped with its Ultium battery technology. It is more probable, though, that aspects of this design will be incorporated into an upcoming Cadillac high-performance vehicle.
