Brivio Confirms Zeelenberg’s Departure from Trackhouse Aprilia After 2024 Season
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of the 2024 season. The confirmation came during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who originally joined the Trackhouse team when it started as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after the group's second season with the Noale brand, which is its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who started with Trackhouse in early 2024, shared that Zeelenberg's exit was a "very difficult" decision. He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore "a new direction."
"We talked about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio mentioned. "This was a choice we made together. Wilco deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
"To be honest, when I got here, I encountered a team that he had developed over the years. Most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of praise for what he has created."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. On one hand, it's unfortunate, but on the other, it's just business."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at the moment. The Dutchman, who previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as the team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
