Brad Binder Praises New KTM MotoGP Bike Direction After Positive Misano Test
Brad Binder is pleased with the progress of the new KTM MotoGP bike.
He mentioned that while it initially took some time to adapt to its characteristics, everything is now fine.
The Misano MotoGP test provided KTM’s official MotoGP riders with their initial opportunity to try out the development version of the RC16, which had previously been used by the factory’s test riders during recent wildcard events.
For Brad Binder, the day at Misano was one of discovery, yet it ended on a high note.
He described today as quite eventful. Initially, the track conditions were uncertain and quite messy. After taking a few laps with the new bike, he noticed it felt significantly different. It took a while to adapt to its unique characteristics, but everything turned out fine.
"The bicycle handles smoothly. We will have more information after conducting some test rides, but I am pleased with the current progress."
In addition to the aerodynamics and configuration tasks highlighted by Guidotti, Miller had the opportunity to test Michelin's new front tire, which is scheduled for release in 2025.
"It wasn't a bad day," commented the Australian. "I had the chance to test the new Michelin front tire and felt quite positive about it."
"We tested a fairing and didn't make many other changes. The next Grand Prix is approaching quickly, giving us little time before we hit the track at Misano again."
Both factory riders, Binder and Miller, were involved in testing alongside the factory test rider Dani Pedrosa, making it a logistically challenging day.
“Brad tested a different setup: a 2024 model with some modifications and a possible new bike version in development,” stated Francesco Guidotti, the team principal of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.
"It was a significant challenge and somewhat of a gamble to fit everything into a single day, as it left limited time for each bike and each run."
"Dani is working on an updated version of the existing bike, primarily aimed at this season, while Jack is concentrating on reviewing the aerodynamics and configuration."
"There are numerous riders and bikes involved, so it's crucial to gather as much information as possible to make informed decisions for the upcoming weeks and beyond."
Sebastian Risse, the technical manager for KTM’s MotoGP team, stated that the Misano test served as an opportunity for KTM to assess various components. This evaluation is a precursor to assembling more comprehensive packages, which they plan to test at the last official event of the year in Valencia this November.
According to Risse, "This marks the final checkpoint before the next season officially kicks off in Valencia. Our goal here wasn't to assemble everything perfectly; rather, we focused on validating individual components, saving the comprehensive integration for Valencia."
