BMW’s Modellstrategie: Gerüchte um Wiedergeburt des 6ers und das mögliche Ende des XM
BMW reportedly plans to revive the 6 Series
It could potentially replace the 8 Series in 2026
It's a common practice for car manufacturers to continuously tweak their lineup and make adjustments. Sometimes a particular model may not perform as well in sales or project the desired brand image. In such cases, action is required. This is what BMW might be considering now.
According to a recent report, the Munich-based car manufacturer plans to revive the 6 Series, which is set to succeed the 8 Series. The same report suggests that the high-performance SUV, the XM, may be facing discontinuation.
According to a report by Automotive News, which cites unnamed supplier industry sources, the new 6 Series is expected to launch in the latter half of 2026. This release is anticipated to follow closely after the discontinuation of the 8 Series production. It is suggested that the revived 6 Series line will essentially replace the 8 Series, presumably available as a coupe and convertible. Presently, the 8 Series is marketed in three configurations: a two-door, a four-door, and a convertible.
The final model of the F12 series was succeeded by the 8 Series in 2018. Although similar in size, BMW placed the 8 Series at a significantly higher market tier, resulting in a heftier price tag. Reports indicate that the new vehicle is built on the company's CLAR platform, which accommodates traditional combustion engines, hybrid systems, and fully electric powertrains.
The BMW XM, a PHEV Power SUV that has recently entered the market, is causing quite a stir. According to a source from Automotive News, the manufacturer does not intend to create a successor for the model once its production ceases at the end of 2028. Initially, there were considerations for an all-electric variant, but those plans have been scrapped.
However, BMWBlog has quickly dispelled these new rumors. According to the outlet's sources, there are no intentions to revive the 6 Series or to discontinue the XM. A representative from BMW disclosed to Motor1 that "currently, there are no strategies to reintroduce the 6 Series for the 2026 model year, despite widespread speculation in the automotive press."
