Bagnaia Leads the Pack: Reigning Champion Dominates Misano MotoGP Test Ahead of ‘Misano 2’
"A Significant Advancement": Francesco Bagnaia Dominates Misano MotoGP Test
Francesco Bagnaia emerged as the frontrunner during Monday's Official Misano MotoGP test.
Finishing second in both San Marino races, Francesco Bagnaia aimed for a victory during 'Misano 2' by topping the timesheets in Monday’s Official MotoGP test at the same circuit.
The current titleholder, who finished behind Marc Marquez in Sunday’s race but closed the gap on championship contender Jorge Martin by 19 points, moved up from fifth place in the morning to record the fastest time in the afternoon session.
Bagnaia, who is still dealing with the physical effects of his crash with Alex Marquez at Aragon, focused on adjusting the 2024 bike's set-up and is believed to have tested a new chassis. However, his primary focus was on the electronics for the GP25.
"It was a good day that enabled us to concentrate on various elements," the Italian remarked.
"Our primary task was to work on electronics in anticipation of the upcoming year. We then concentrated on improving specific aspects of the GP24, which served as our foundation for the day's efforts."
“We also tested the latest [2025] Michelin tire, and I was very impressed with it.
"In general, I'm pleased with our progress. We've undoubtedly moved ahead, so I think we're heading in the right direction."
Pecco Bagnaia completed 51 laps, equivalent to two grand prix distances, and recorded a best time of 1 minute 30.619 seconds. His team-mate, Enea Bastianini, finished third with a time 0.366 seconds slower after completing 49 laps.
With The Beast transitioning to KTM next season, his attention was directed towards enhancing the current GP24 and participating in the Michelin front tire test.
“It was a successful trial. Besides experimenting with a few aerodynamic features, we focused on enhancing my comfort with the medium rear tire,” stated Bastianini, who employed a soft rear tire to secure third place in the grand prix, finishing behind Marc Marquez and Bagnaia.
"Unlike the race weekend, I quickly found my comfort zone, which will be crucial for the upcoming race in Misano."
"We tried out a new Michelin tire; initially, it felt unusual, but after several laps, I adapted and posted strong lap times. In summary, I'm pleased and looking forward to the next Grand Prix at my home circuit."
Franco Morbidelli from Pramac has positioned himself between the Lenovo Ducati riders, resulting in an all-GP24 top three. Meanwhile, newcomer Pedro Acosta emerged as the top performer for KTM outside the leading trio.
The Emilia Romagna event, also referred to as 'Misano 2', is scheduled for September 20-22.
