Audi Unveils A6 E-Tron: The Future of Electric Sedans Arrives This Summer

This summer, Audi is set to reveal the details of the A6 E-Tron, the fully electric variant of its long-standing four-door car.

The upcoming Audi vehicle will mark the brand's second venture utilizing the 800-volt Premium Platform Electric (PPE), an exclusive EV architecture developed by the Volkswagen Group. This platform was initially introduced with the launch of the Audi Q6 E-Tron and the electric version of the Porsche Macan SUVs earlier in the year.

The Audi A6 E-Tron Concept made its debut at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show.

In 2021, Audi gave a sneak peek of the A6 E-Tron through a concept vehicle bearing the same title. According to Audi, the concept which was nearly production-ready at 95%, showcased a design similar to the present Audi A7 rather than the A6, although it was relatively comparable in dimensions to both models.

The design showcased an all-wheel drive system powered by two motors, boasting a strength of 469 horsepower and a torque of 590 pound-feet, enabling it to surge to 62 mph in under four seconds. Audi claimed that the 100-kWh battery could deliver a driving distance of 300 miles on a single charge during the presentation of the concept. Additionally, due to the 800-volt system of the PPE platform, it could recharge from 5% to 80% in under 25 minutes.

An estate model, also known as Avant in Audi's terminology, is in the works, but it might not launch at the same time as the sedan version this summer. It remains uncertain if the Audi A6 Avant E-Tron will be available in the United States. Meanwhile, the BMW i5 Touring, an estate variant which is anticipated to be a major competitor of the A6 E-Tron, won't be making it to the U.S. market. However, the A6 E-Tron saloon is slated to arrive in the U.S. at the beginning of next year, labeled as a 2025 model.

In contrast to competitor Mercedes-Benz, who has postponed its electric vehicle goals and intends to maintain traditional fuel vehicles well into the 2030s, Audi has pledged to introduce its final fuel-dependent vehicle in 2026, as declared by CEO Gernot Döllner at the company's financial results briefing in 2023. This suggests that the A6 E-Tron is expected to fully take over from the gasoline-powered A6 sedan and A6 Avant eventually.
