Aprilia Admits Ducati’s Sway Over MotoGP Silly Season Amid Italian Rider Dream and Martin Signing
Aprilia acknowledges that "Ducati holds the power" in determining the outcomes of the silly season.
"The preference is clearly for Italian riders on an Italian motorcycle."
Ducati's choices allowed Aprilia to make moves in the rider market, they acknowledge.
In the 2025 MotoGP season, Jorge Martin will be racing for Aprilia, following his snub by Ducati.
Marc Marquez from Gresini has been selected for the official Ducati team, taking the spot over Enea Bastianini or Pramac's Martin.
Among the onlookers were Aprilia, a team that has secured one spot for the next season following Aleix Espargaro's decision to retire.
The fate of Maverick Vinales remains uncertain as his contract is coming to an end.
Before finalizing Martin, Aprilia had strong connections to the potential signing of Bastianini. They might still pursue Bastianini if Vinales leaves.
Max Biaggi, a renowned figure in MotoGP and currently serving as an ambassador for Aprilia, evaluated the circumstances.
Biaggi expressed his regret to TNT Sports, stating that he feels very sorry about Aleix leaving, as he has been a member of the Aprilia family for a long time.
The dream is to have Italian cyclists riding Italian motorcycles.
"I believe there is a strong possibility that this could potentially occur."
"However, it is ultimately up to Ducati to determine the direction and dynamics of this market."
“It appears to be extremely chaotic.”
Following the retirement of Espargaro and the subsequent signing of Martin, Aprilia now faces the challenge of deciding Vinales' future with the team.
If Vinales shows interest in moving to another team, Bastianini might become a potential candidate.
This would allow Bastianini to transition to a different main factory team without needing to join a satellite team.
Aprilia is aware that they possess a highly sought-after motorcycle, especially after Vinales secured three sprint race wins in addition to clinching the Grand Prix of the Americas.
Recently, the Italian company has positioned itself as Ducati’s closest competitor, surpassing KTM.
Marco Bezzecchi or Fabio di Giannantonio could help Aprilia achieve their goal of having an Italian rider if they decide to depart from VR46.
