Andrea Iannone’s MotoGP Return: A Comeback Story Fueled by Talent and Ambition
Andrea Iannone is supported in making an incredible return to MotoGP
"Initially, it's crucial to determine if I continue in WorldSBK or not."
Andrea Iannone's comeback to MotoGP is well-deserved, his WorldSBK chief argues.
After serving a four-year suspension for doping, the Italian motorcyclist made a return this season, joining the Go Eleven Ducati team in the World Superbike Championship (WSBK).
His remarkable initial showings have stirred up excitement about his potential return to MotoGP.
"Denis Sacchetti, the manager of Go Eleven, considers him an elite rider," he remarked.
"Andrea possesses exceptional riding skills and I believe he rightfully belongs in WorldSBK with a factory ride, and he also merits a spot in MotoGP.
"He likely has opportunities within MotoGP as well."
"Currently, it's up to him to determine his career aspirations."
"The team offers the possibility of remaining with them. This includes a one-year agreement, with a potential extension for another year."
He must make a choice on whether to take the opportunity or pass on it. It all hinges on his desires.
"If he chooses to continue being part of our team, we'd be incredibly pleased, as I believe we have the potential to achieve great outcomes, despite being a private squad. We are a non-factory team but we receive strong backing from Ducati."
"I believe we possess the competitiveness to vie for a podium position in each race. I'm uncertain, though."
"His destiny is not in our hands but rather lies with him, Ducati, and potentially other makers who wield far greater influence than we do!"
Iannone mentioned his plans for 2025, stating, "Our plans are constantly evolving since each day brings a change."
"It's a common sentiment, not just for myself. My attention is directed towards the Championship."
"After the Misano race, I'll begin considering my next steps. Primarily, it's crucial to determine if I'll continue competing in WorldSBK."
This season, Iannone is competing on a Panigale V4 R from an Independent team.
If Alvaro Bautista decides to retire, it would create an available spot on the Aruba.it Ducati team next to Nicolo Bulega.
Iannone, who is currently 34 years old, has become a topic of discussion for potential openings on MotoGP teams for the upcoming season.
Over the course of seven seasons at the top level, he was primarily associated with Ducati, followed by periods at Suzuki and then Aprilia.
Currently, he holds the sixth position in the World Superbike Championship standings, following three rounds.
Iannone is set to make a comeback at Misano for the upcoming round of WSBK on the 14th of June, ahead of making a decision regarding his plans for the following season.
