Alex Marquez Defends Integrity After Aragon MotoGP Crash: ‘It’s Not in My DNA to Deliberately Make Contact
Alex Marquez replies: "I have never intentionally collided with another racer"
Alex Marquez dismisses any claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating: 'It's not in my nature, nor is it a part of this sport's ethos.'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain comments following Sunday’s MotoGP incident in Aragon involving Francesco Bagnaia.
The duo experienced a severe crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini competitor for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that "no additional measures" were necessary because "neither rider was found to be mainly at fault".
However, Marquez appears dissatisfied with Bagnaia's remarks implying that the Gresini rider maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com that he realized the other rider was trying to make contact when he heard the engine revving as soon as he entered the next corner.
"I was interested in examining that information… He kept the throttle open between 60 and 40 percent right up until the moment he crashed. This behavior seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on his social media accounts:
"Having reviewed several statements, I want to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of doing so. Such behavior is against my principles and the principles of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's time to relax and rejuvenate my body so I can be in peak condition for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia managed to escape serious harm and are set to compete at Misano this weekend.
In the Aragon race, Marc Marquez, who is Alex's team-mate and brother, took the victory. Jorge Martin secured second place, which has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
