Alberto Puig Reveals Why Marc Marquez Took Time to Triumph on Ducati: Insights on the Champion’s Aragon Victory
Alberto Puig identifies the factor that delayed Marc Marquez's victory on a Ducati
Honda's leader comments on Marc Marquez's victory at Aragon
Alberto Puig has highlighted the reasons behind Marc Marquez's delay in securing his initial victory after leaving Honda.
Marquez clinched his initial victories riding a Ducati the previous weekend in Aragon, recapturing his former glory with an impeccable performance throughout the weekend.
Marquez shared that he made a visit to his old teammates at Honda, the team with which he secured his eight world championships, to ensure they felt included in his recent achievements.
"Marc's triumph brought me great joy, and honestly, I anticipated it," said Repsol Honda team leader Puig to El Periodico.
"Moreover, I had anticipated his victory to come earlier, yet the gap between this year's Ducati and the 2023 model truly astounded me."
"I believe this significant disparity has hindered Marc's ability to secure victories in the season's initial phase."
"Certainly, the exceptional performances of Pecco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin, and Enea Bastianini stand out, showcasing their incredible talent as three of the finest riders."
Puig's Honda continues to lag behind in the rankings, a major factor in Marquez's decision to leave the previous year.
However, he maintains that Marquez's performance this season has been hindered by using a 2023 Ducati.
This is the reason I believe Marc's recent victory, securing a win on last year's motorcycle model against the current Ducati models, holds even greater value.
"I don't have a direct role with Ducati, yet I've spent numerous years observing and examining the races. The contrast between Ducati's performance this year and the previous one is significant."
"This is why Marc's achievement, securing a victory in Aragon, is truly significant. And, to reiterate, this was something I anticipated; it doesn't astonish me at all."
Puig honored the legend who previously shone as Honda's leading figure.
"I am more familiar with Marc Marquez than anyone else; he's a racer whose skills are extraordinarily powerful."
"After his significant crash in Jerez, a lot of folks questioned his ability."
"I get it, considering all the challenges, from the physical injuries, the double vision, to the malfunctioning motorcycle. Yet, through it all, I never once lost faith in my ability to triumph once more!"
Marc has made a comeback as himself, triumphing once more, not due to his skill, not because of the Ducati, not owing to his fresh team… absolutely not.
"Marc emerged victorious once more due to his unwavering certainty."
"When your focus intensively locks onto an objective, when your vision is as precise as Marc's current and past clarity, when your resolve is as fierce as his, achieving what you aim for, what you set out to do, becomes inevitable."
"Especially not in the case of a unique figure like Marc."
