Alberto Puig Addresses Joan Mir’s Uncertain Future at Honda Amidst MotoGP Struggles
Alberto Puig's straightforward evaluation of Joan Mir's prospects with Honda
"Typically, when a rider is facing difficulties, there's a tendency for him to become somewhat…"
Alberto Puig maintains that he has not engaged in discussions with the dissatisfied Joan Mir regarding his future at Honda.
Since beginning his tenure with Repsol Honda at the outset of the previous year, Mir has gone through a notably difficult period.
He has earlier talked about the possibility of retiring early and, in more recent conversations, mentioned departing upon his contract's conclusion at the year's end.
The head of the Repsol Honda team, Puig, was inquired about any new developments regarding Mir's future intentions.
"In Mugello, he responded with a 'No.' He explained that usually, when a rider faces difficulties, there's a tendency to become somewhat…"
Certainly, we completely grasp that he's discontented.
"Currently, to put it plainly, our collective efforts, including his and Luca's, are dedicated to resolving the issues with the motorcycle."
"Thus far, we haven't yet approached a conversation about renewing."
"In the coming days or months – be it this month, during the summer, in June, or July – decisions will need to be made."
"We will proceed from that point."
Honda is solidly positioned at the rear of the pack.
Mir currently holds the 17th position in the MotoGP rankings following the Mugello race.
Luca Marini, who joined the team this season to fill the vacancy left by Marc Marquez, is facing greater difficulties than Mir.
Marini stands as the sole regular rider yet to score any points this season.
Mir is rumored to be in talks for a transfer to Trackhouse, the satellite team of Aprilia managed by Davide Brivio.
During Mir's tenure at Suzuki, Brivio collaborated with him, culminating in the championship victory in 2020.
