Acura Electrifies Monterey with Performance EV Concept Reveal Ahead of 2025 Production
Acura introduced a captivating SUV prototype at the Monterey event on Thursday, offering a glimpse into the upcoming electric vehicle they are developing.
The latest electric performance prototype was revealed during the ongoing 2024 Monterey Car Week in California, showcasing a model expected to begin manufacturing towards the end of 2025 at Honda's expansive Marysville Auto Plant located in Ohio, which is the parent company.
The power cells for the electric vehicles will be procured from the facility that is currently undergoing modifications for electric vehicle manufacturing. Honda has started calling this location the Honda EV Hub.
The Acura Performance EV concept, a sleek fastback SUV, is expected to have its bold design softened before it hits the market. Nonetheless, its core design elements are set to influence upcoming Acura models, as stated by Dave Marek, the brand's lead designer.

The innovative technology behind this concept is set to extend beyond its current application, finding its way into a range of vehicles from Acura, a multitude of Honda models, and potentially even into the offerings from Afeela, the new venture formed by Honda in collaboration with Sony. This concept is built on a proprietary electric vehicle architecture that Honda has developed internally, aiming to achieve an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) range of at least 300 miles.
The base of the vehicle is not connected to the electric vehicle system and battery tech from General Motors known as Ultium, which is present in vehicles like the Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue. This new base will incorporate an electric and electronic framework that will employ Honda's proprietary vehicle operating system and onboard software. This will include advanced user interfaces and digital offerings, as previously mentioned by the car manufacturer.
The initial automobile utilizing the new framework is anticipated to be part of Honda's 0 Series lineup of electric vehicles, which was introduced at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in January. Honda has verified that the inaugural model from the 0 Series will be manufactured in the United States and is slated to hit the market in 2026. This model might take design cues from the Saloon showcased by Honda during the reveal of the 0 Series.
