2025 BMW i5 Lineup: Unchanged Elegance Meets Electric Power with a Starting Price of $68,275

The starting price for the 2025 model of the electric BMW i5, which is the zero-emission counterpart to the 5-Series midsize luxury sedan, remains largely the same as it enters its second year of production.

The introductory model of the i5 series is the i5 eDrive40 featuring a single motor and rear-wheel drive, priced at $68,275 including the compulsory $1,175 delivery fee. This variant boasts 335 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, with an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in an estimated 5.7 seconds, according to BMW's calculations.

Upcoming 2025 BMW Electric

The i5 xDrive40, with its two-motor all-wheel drive system, was introduced in the middle of the 2024 model year and is priced from $71,275 including destination fees. This version includes an additional motor for the front axle, increasing its power to 389 horsepower and 435 pound-feet of torque, and reducing its acceleration time from 0 to 60 mph to just 5.2 seconds.

The top-tier model in the series, the M60 xDrive, boasts a robust dual-motor i5 M60, delivering a formidable 590 horsepower and 586 pound-feet of torque. BMW claims it can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.7 seconds. To align with BMW's "Ultimate Driving Machine" philosophy, it also incorporates an adaptive suspension system and enhanced braking capabilities. The 2025 model comes with a price tag of $85,275, including the cost of delivery.

The i5 series will persist with the 84.3-kwh battery pack. It's expected that the EPA range estimates will remain consistent with 2024 figures, which suggest a top range of 295 miles for the i5 eDrive40 model, 266 miles for the i5 xDrive40, and 253 miles for the i5 M60 when equipped with the best wheels and tires for efficiency.

Debuting in the 2024 lineup, the i5 shares its design philosophy with BMW's i4 and i7 as an electric variant of a traditional fuel-powered model. In an initial test drive, Green Car Reports was impressed, noting that the electric model far surpasses its gasoline counterpart. It stands out as a superior vehicle compared to the regular 5-Series. However, its appeal could be enhanced if BMW introduced the chic i5 wagon in the American market along with the sedan version, although this seems improbable given the general disinterest of American consumers in that particular design.
