2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 Hits Dealerships with Enhanced Range and Luxury Features
The first batch of the 2024 edition of the GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 has started reaching dealership locations, as confirmed by General Motors on Wednesday. However, it will take a while longer for different models of the electric truck to become available at dealers.
The initial release model of the Sierra EV is hitting the market at an introductory cost of $99,495, plus a delivery charge of $1,995. This amount is slightly lower than the initial price point indicated by Green Car Reports in their 2022 preview of the vehicle. Additionally, the launch version boasts an EPA range of 440 miles, which is approximately 10% higher than the range that was initially projected.
Sporting the prestigious Denali emblem, synonymous with GMC's luxury line, the Edition 1 is equipped with an adjustable air suspension system, the capability to steer the rear wheels, and the unique CrabWalk function initially seen in the GMC Hummer EV. This specific attribute sets the GMC apart from the elite 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST model. Mirroring their fossil-fueled versions, the Sierra EV and Silverado EV share a close resemblance, diverging primarily in their design details and a selection of features.
2024 Edition 1 of the GMC Sierra EV Denali Model
The initial versions come equipped with a two-motor setup capable of delivering as much as 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque, which facilitates a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. Furthermore, these models boast a towing limit of 10,000 pounds, surpassing the initially indicated 9,500 pounds. They feature a midgate pass-through, a concept first introduced by GM in the early 2000s, that can accommodate objects stretching up to 11 feet. Additionally, there's a front trunk for extra storage space.
The Sierra EV, as per GMC, is equipped with a two-tiered battery system projected to match the Hummer EV's top models at 205 kWh. This setup enables compatibility with 350-kW, 800-volt charging stations, offering a rapid recharge capability of approximately 100 miles within a mere 10 minutes. Additionally, the vehicle can function as a portable generator, thanks to its ability to support bidirectional charging of up to 10.2 kW.
The vehicle is equipped with enormous 24-inch rims and boasts a substantial 16.8-inch screen for infotainment purposes. It also offers the Super Cruise feature for assisted driving on highways, functional even when hauling a trailer. GM anticipates that by the end of 2025, there will be 750,000 miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada suitable for this system.
The inaugural edition of the electric GMC Sierra, known as the 2024
In 2021, GMC revealed plans for the Sierra EV, targeting a 2023 release date. The company has hinted that unlike the Silverado EV, which GM's CEO Mary Barra emphasized as a mass-market electric truck, the Sierra EV may not follow the same path with extensive work-truck options. However, GMC has confirmed the future availability of an AT4 model designed for off-roading, and a base Elevation model anticipated to be priced near $50,000.
The release of alternative models of both the Sierra EV and Silverado EV won't be immediate. General Motors has pushed back the mass production schedule for these electric vehicles at its Orion Assembly facility in Michigan, with the new timeline set for the middle of 2026. This delay is one of several that have affected the rollout of these trucks and other electric vehicles that are part of GM's Ultium lineup.
