Pecco Bagnaia Tops Misano Practice Despite Injuries and Painkillers: A Rebound from ‘Strange’ Aragon
Pecco Bagnaia Tops Misano Timesheets Despite Painkillers from Unusual Aragon Incident
MotoGP Champion Shares Thoughts on Friday's Practice Session at Misano
Francesco Bagnaia from Ducati mentioned that he "needed" a solid performance on Friday at the MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix after experiencing a "bizarre" weekend at Aragon.
The current two-time world champion led Friday’s session at Misano by 0.185 seconds, even though he had minor injuries from a collision with Alex Marquez the previous Sunday at Aragon.
On Friday at Misano, Bagnaia experienced a significant improvement in performance compared to the previous weekend at Aragon, where he faced difficulties with the new asphalt and ended his race in a crash involving the younger Marquez brother.
He mentioned that his strong performance was crucial for his confidence, although he confessed that he had to use painkillers during the second practice session because his physical state had made him "a bit scared" in the first practice.
"This is a great feeling to be in first place on an ordinary day, regardless of my physical condition," he stated.
"However, after the race in Aragon, I was craving a sensation like this while riding because everything felt off in Aragon."
"I'm feeling good now. Earlier today, I was a little worried because I was experiencing a lot of pain throughout my entire body."
"This afternoon, we made the decision and arranged at the clinic to use painkillers, which made me feel significantly better."
"Therefore, concentrating solely on riding proved beneficial for me, and we managed to perform excellently with the bike. I felt really good."
When asked about using painkillers over the weekend, Bagnaia responded, "Yes, definitely. I'll be taking more, especially tonight to ensure I get a good night's sleep."
“Perhaps I will need to endure some discomfort tomorrow morning without any medication.”
"Despite experiencing some discomfort, we will aim to achieve something positive and I will take more painkillers in the afternoon if needed."
Bagnaia led five Ducati riders during Friday's practice session at Misano, noting that this performance aligns with the "normal" results he anticipated during the previous weekend at Aragon.
The Italian racer, who is aiming to reduce a 23-point deficit in the championship standings, mentioned that he had anticipated an ordinary weekend in Aragon.
"This is what we usually experience, I believe. Prior to the Aragon event, every session was pretty much like this."
"Marc Marquez is performing excellently; undoubtedly, his victory in Aragon has greatly boosted his morale."
"In this race, my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I recall feeling pretty good last year, even though I wasn't at my best like I am this year. Nonetheless, I anticipated achieving a result like this."
