Pecco Bagnaia Leads the Pack at Misano Despite Battling Pain from a Peculiar Incident at Aragon
MotoGP Titleholder Shares Insights on Misano's Friday Practice Session
Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati expressed that a solid performance on Friday at the MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix was crucial for him after experiencing an "unusual" weekend at Aragon.
The current two-time world champion led the way in Friday's session at Misano, finishing 0.185 seconds ahead despite having sustained minor injuries from a collision with Alex Marquez at Aragon the previous Sunday.
On Friday at Misano, Bagnaia experienced a significant improvement in performance, following a challenging weekend on Aragon's newly laid asphalt, which concluded with a crash involving the younger Marquez sibling.
He expressed that the successful day was crucial for his self-assurance but also disclosed that he had to resort to painkillers during the second practice session due to his physical state in FP1, which had left him feeling somewhat frightened.
"It's really gratifying to be at the forefront on an ordinary day, without taking my physical condition into account," he stated.
"After Aragon, I found myself craving this sensation on my motorcycle, because everything felt off there.
"I'm feeling joyful now. Earlier today, I had some apprehensions due to experiencing intense pain throughout my entire body."
"This afternoon, we made a decision and formulated a plan at the Clinica to administer pain medication, and I experienced significant relief."
"Thus, having the opportunity to solely concentrate on biking improved my experience, and we excelled in tuning the motorcycle. I had a positive sensation throughout."
Regarding the continued use of painkillers over the weekend, Bagnaia confirmed, “Definitely, I'll be taking more, including tonight to ensure a good night’s sleep.
"Perhaps tomorrow morning, I might endure some discomfort without consuming anything."
"However, we'll attempt to make a positive impact, despite my reluctance to take additional pain medication later in the day."
Bagnaia led a quintet of Ducatis during Friday's practice session at Misano, stating that this dominance was the outcome he anticipated during the previous weekend's event at Aragon.
"I anticipated a regular weekend in Aragon," mentioned the Italian, aiming to overcome a 23-point deficit in the championship standings.
"This seems to be the standard scenario, in my opinion. Prior to Aragon, each session pretty much followed this pattern."
"Marc [Marquez] is definitely performing strongly, and without a doubt, his victory in Aragon has significantly boosted his motivation."
"In this race, my memory is a bit hazy, but last year I recall being in high spirits, despite not being fully fit like I am now. However, I definitely anticipated achieving a result similar to this."
