Marini and Mir Return to Misano: Evaluating Honda’s New MotoGP Updates Amid Illness
Luca Marini "notices changes" in Honda MotoGP improvements during Misano test
Luca Marini and Joan Mir returned to the track for the one-day MotoGP test at Misano after being absent from the weekend's Grand Prix.
Luca Marini and Joan Mir participated in the official one-day MotoGP test at Misano after being unable to compete in the Grand Prix due to illness.
Both riders had several new components to evaluate, with the most significant being a new fairing that seems to resemble the design Ducati has been using on its Desmosedici GP24 since the February test in Sepang, along with various chassis elements.
Marini concluded the test session in 21st position, while Mir finished just behind him in 22nd. Although the Italian rider is still recovering from the illness that caused him to miss Sunday's Grand Prix, he managed to identify some benefits in the new components provided by Honda.
Marini emphasized the significance of returning to the bike today to test various aspects for the engineers. He had previously withdrawn from the San Marino Grand Prix on race day morning due to falling ill overnight.
"To be honest, I wasn't feeling my best today, so we had to scale back our plans somewhat. We got most of our tasks done in the morning and finished up a few remaining items in the afternoon."
"Despite not being at peak performance, we noticed improvements with Honda's updates here. I hope my feedback can guide them moving forward. We discovered some benefits that will help not only in the long term but also in the upcoming races."
Joan Mir, similar to Marini, was absent from Sunday's race due to illness. However, Mir's health problems started on Friday, causing him to miss the whole weekend at Misano.
Returning to testing on Monday, Mir wasn't at his peak health but was well enough to assess some of the new components from HRC.
"I’m feeling improved today, though I’m not completely back to full strength," Mir mentioned. "I’m well enough to participate in testing, which feels like a victory after these past challenging days. Today has been busy as we experimented with various elements, including aerodynamics and a few other components."
"We've gathered valuable data, but our efforts must continue to uncover more insights moving forward. For now, it's time to take a break, rejuvenate, and allow the engineers to proceed with their tasks."
