Marc Marquez Sets Sights on Factory Ducati: A Journey from First Desmosedici Ride to 2025 Team Confirmation
Marc Marquez: Factory Team Has Been My Aim Since My Initial Ducati Experience
Marc Marquez expressed, “Since that initial moment, my aim has been to pursue this journey and transition to the team where Pecco Bagnaia has clinched the World Championship for two consecutive years.”
Marc Marquez mentioned that he had 'three options' regarding his future in MotoGP, but the Spanish rider has disclosed that he was aiming to become part of the factory Ducati team after experiencing his 'initial encounter with the Desmosedici' during last November's test in Valencia.
The official announcement was made this Wednesday morning that the eight-time world champion will join Francesco Bagnaia as his teammate for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Marquez expressed his joy about donning the red colors of the factory Ducati team in MotoGP for the upcoming season.
"Essentially, I found joy in riding the Desmosedici GP from the very first time I tried it and quickly got used to it."
"From then on, I realized my objective was to keep progressing, to keep improving, and to join the team where Pecco Bagnaia has claimed the World Championship title for two consecutive years."
"I am pleased to make this significant move in 2025 and thankful for Ducati's confidence in me."
"Lastly, I wish to express my gratitude to Nadia, Carlo, Michele, and everyone at Gresini Racing for welcoming me into their team during a pivotal moment in my career."
"Our main focus right now is to keep enjoying ourselves and putting in maximum effort for the rest of this season."
Following years of struggles with arm injuries, double vision, and an uncompetitive bike at Honda, Marquez ended his lucrative contract with HRC to compete with the satellite Gresini Ducati team this season, racing alongside his brother, Alex.
Marquez experienced the Ducati for the first time during the Valencia test. In the second round at Portimao, he achieved a podium finish in the Sprint. He led a race momentarily in the third round at COTA, and by the fourth round at Jerez, he was in a close battle with Bagnaia for the win.
Despite not having secured a victory since his last Honda triumph at Misano in 2021, Marquez has managed to achieve three grand prix podium finishes and has consistently competed with the factory GP24s while riding his older GP23.
Ducati decided to let go of their leading contender, Jorge Martin, to bring in Marquez, influenced by the latter's impressive performances. Martin, who was initially expected to secure a spot with the factory Ducati team by the time of the Mugello race, ended up joining Aprilia on Monday
The rapid finalization of the Marquez-Ducati agreement highlights that although personal sponsorship conflicts, like those involving Red Bull and Monster, will need addressing, they did not significantly hinder the #93's transfer.
Martin, Bagnaia, and Marquez have become the leading candidates for the 2024 title, with only 35 points separating them at the top of the rankings.
