Jorge Martin Vows to Learn from ‘Rookie Mistake’ at Mugello After Losing Second Place to Bastianini
Jorge Martin assures that a "novice error" at Mugello "won't occur again"
Jorge Martin stated, "Believe me, this won't repeat itself in the future. I believe a skilled rider learns from their errors. Today was a foolish mistake, similar to something a beginner would make."
Jorge Martin has stated that the error he made on the last turn of the Italian MotoGP, which enabled Enea Bastianini to overtake him for second place, will not be repeated.
During the race at Mugello, Martin not only slipped from second place but also conceded more points to his MotoGP championship competitor, Francesco Bagnaia.
Throughout a significant portion of the race, Martin trailed Bagnaia and even closed the gap enough that he appeared poised to contend with the Italian for victory as the race neared its conclusion.
Nonetheless, Martin faced no direct challenge but fell significantly behind Bastianini, the same competitor he had clashed with during the sprint race, ultimately conceding his position at the last turn.
Martin described the race as engaging and noted that he now feels content observing from an external perspective. Despite the significant disappointment he felt after the final lap, he mentioned that he would have agreed to a podium finish before the race started.
"Yesterday was really tough for me, and I faced a significant challenge. However, we made substantial progress since then, and with three laps remaining, I was right behind Pecco."
"Being nearby is different from being in a position to take action. I wasn't quite that close, but we were significantly more competitive than we were last season."
"We're consistently competitive, and I believe I've made it to the podium at every race weekend. This circuit seemed destined for Pecco since Thursday, so being near the top is a great outcome."
In the last lap, Martin didn't visibly err, but he thinks he could have stopped Bastianini from passing.
When questioned about his most recent error on the concluding lap, Martin replied, "I can't recall. You learn from what happens to you, and today, I had a particularly tough experience on the final turn."
“Believe me, this will not occur again going forward. I believe a skilled rider learns from their errors and gets better.”
"Today was a foolish error, akin to what a beginner might make. Next year, when we reach the final lap at Mugello, I will ensure to stay on the white line."
