Fiat Tipo Easy Limousine 2024: A Budget-Friendly Diesel Powerhouse at 17,000 Euros

Even standard new cars in the compact class are getting pricier. The iconic Volkswagen Golf, for instance, is currently priced starting at 27,180 euros in Germany. Having that amount of cash on hand isn't easy for everyone. On the other end, vehicles under 20,000 euros are typically either from Dacia, small in size, or underpowered. That's why Fiat's latest deal comes as quite a surprise.

The Fiat Tipo, which has been in production since 2015, still appears in the configurator, but with a unique twist. It's offered as a sedan with a trunk – a style not commonly favored in this region – equipped with a 130 horsepower diesel engine. Normally, it would set you back 19,490 euros according to the German price index, but it's currently available for a reduced price of 16,990 euros. That's quite the deal – under 17,000 euros for a powerful diesel vehicle.

Let's take a closer look at this offer. The Tipo Sedan measures 4.53 meters in length, 1.79 meters in width, and 1.50 meters in height, with a wheelbase of approximately 2.64 meters. It boasts a trunk space of 520 liters. The large "Fiat" letters on the grille signal the updated model, yet there's not much change to be seen, both outside and inside, after nine years. Some might consider this a good thing, given the complex controls in some new cars. The car comes in an attractive metallic color named "Vento Blue," which translates to "Wind Blue." Interestingly, Vento was also the name of a sedan model from VW.

What comes standard with the vehicle? The car, officially named Tipo Easy, doesn't include alloy wheels but is equipped with 15-inch steel wheels. Additionally, it features an adjustable driver's seat, manual air conditioning, and a 5-inch radio that supports DAB and Bluetooth, though it lacks Android Auto/Apple CarPlay compatibility. The "Urban" trim level, however, includes these smartphone integration systems along with a 7-inch touchscreen. Priced at a promotional rate of 17,490 euros (normally a reasonable 19,990 euros), it also comes with LED headlights, LED rear lights, automatic climate control, 16-inch steel wheels, extra chrome on the exterior, and soft-touch materials on the interior.

Both models come standard with a front center armrest, rear parking sensors, a backup camera, and various assistance systems such as traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed assistance, and lane-keeping assistance. The only additional cost options are certain premium paint colors. We would recommend the "Urban" model, which for just an extra 500 euros offers significantly more features. Fiat provides a two-year warranty from the factory.

Fiat does not present any other body types or engines for the Tipo model in Germany, possibly indicating a strategy that responds to Dacia's moves and aims to clear out the current series. For some time now, Citroën has been adopting a similar approach with its vehicles priced below 20,000 euros, however, they are equipped with turbocharged gasoline engines.

Regardless of how you look at it, the highlight of the budget-friendly Tipo is its engine: a 1.6-liter turbo diesel paired with a six-speed manual transmission, delivering 130 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque for a curb weight of 1,375 kilograms. This is sufficient for accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 210 km/h. Fiat claims a combined factory fuel consumption of between 4.6 to 4.7 liters.
