Fabio Quartararo Breaks Silence: Staying at Yamaha Is About the Project, Not the Paycheck
Fabio Quartararo addresses allegations that he remained with Yamaha due to financial incentives.
Reports suggest that Fabio Quartararo is the top-earning rider in MotoGP.
Fabio Quartararo has refuted claims that financial incentives influenced his decision to remain with Yamaha.
The reigning MotoGP champion of 2021 signed a long-term contract with his underperforming team at the beginning of this season.
His annual salary of €12 million reportedly makes him the top-earning rider in MotoGP at present.
Quartararo was questioned about whether he feels annoyed by claims that he re-signed with Yamaha primarily to increase his financial earnings.
"A little," he mentioned to AS. "Just slightly because I understand the reason I've remained, and I've expressed it."
"The reason lies in the ongoing project and the working methods of the team at Yamaha."
“Certainly, economics plays a minor role in all the positive developments I have observed, which exceed mere promises.”
Yamaha's initiative aims to bring back the success and splendor of past eras.
Quartararo understands that there isn't an immediate solution.
"We don't have enough time. We require an additional year," he stated.
"By early next year, I believe our situation will have changed from what it is currently."
"We'll be able to converse like we used to, without worrying about whether we can make it to Q2, and achieving that more frequently than we currently do."
Quartararo was inquired whether the regulatory modifications for 2027 make it difficult for Yamaha to design a motorcycle for the two years prior.
He mentioned that due to Yamaha's current investments, there shouldn't be any cause for concern.
“Additionally, my contract does not extend to 2027.
"I think Yamaha aims to make a comeback in the near future and maintain its position over the long haul."
Today, Yamaha can at least take comfort in knowing that their bike is not the least competitive one in the race.
This position is held by Honda, who frequently find themselves at the rear and confront an equally tough task in reclaiming their former success.
Quartararo stated that he personally has no interest in outperforming Honda.
“What’s the reason for wanting to see who’s behind you?”
"I value what we share. I'm not concerned about anyone else."
"You should focus on those ahead of you rather than worrying about those behind you."
