**Enea Bastianini Shines at Mugello: Focuses on Present Amid Future Uncertainty**
Enea Bastianini addresses speculation about his future: "I prefer to focus on the present."
Enea Bastianini remarked, "While we often consider the future, I want to appreciate the present moment, especially since this has been a particularly challenging time."
Enea Bastianini delivered his most impressive performance of the 2024 MotoGP season at Mugello, overtaking Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez in the final stages.
Occupying third place for a significant portion of the race, Bastianini was later relegated to fourth after Marquez managed to overtake him.
However, this seemed to ignite a spark in Bastianini, who answered back within a few laps as his speed in the latter part of the race proved overwhelming for Marquez.
In the last lap, Bastianini amazed everyone with a remarkable 1 minute and 46.2 seconds time, overtaking Martin in the process.
"The race was challenging, but I'm thrilled because achieving a strong result was crucial," Bastianini started.
"We haven't had much luck during this stretch of the season, but today's outcome changed that."
"When Marc passed me, I shut my eyes and pushed harder. I made an effort to pass him again."
"On the final lap, I noticed Jorge wasn't right behind me, but he was within reach. So, in the last turn, I pushed as hard as I could. Midway through the turn, I realized I had a lot more speed."
Could Bastianini have passed Bagnaia if he had demonstrated his end-of-race speed earlier?
Bastianini expressed uncertainty, stating: "Pecco was incredibly quick today. Both Jorge and I attempted numerous times to close the gap, and we came quite close. However, whenever we tried to push harder, we would occasionally make errors and end up losing time."
"We had significant difficulties with the front tire, which made things challenging. However, I was able to push a bit more towards the end of the race."
"I find it difficult to explain this. It might have been possible, though it's unlikely. I'm unsure about how close to full capacity Pecco was."
Bastianini's second-place finish was his top performance this season, and he managed to surpass the two competitors aiming to take his spot next year.
Eager to avoid getting too caught up in discussions about his future, Bastianini aimed his message at Ducati, though it could also be relevant to other potential teams if he parts ways with Ducati, which seems probable.
"The Beast" remarked: "We often focus on the future, but I want to concentrate on the present. We've been thinking a lot about what's ahead, but I want to appreciate today because this time has been very challenging."
"I made a few errors, and the team also made some mistakes. Despite what happened, today is a truly wonderful day."
"Typically, I’m not satisfied with finishing in second place, but today I’m quite pleased and I prefer not to dwell on what’s ahead."
