Ducati’s Strategic Shift: From Youth Development to Marquez’s High-Profile Signing
Ducati Criticized for Abandoning Key Plan – “That Wouldn't Have Been My Choice…”
“Out of nowhere, there was a shift in approach, resulting in the dismissal of younger employees"
It's been reported that Ducati has moved away from the tactics that transformed Pecco Bagnaia into a MotoGP titleholder.
Marc Marquez joining their factory team for the upcoming season signifies a shift away from their previous strategy of promoting young talents, such as Bagnaia, from within their organization.
However, it presented a unique chance to secure a contract with one of the most outstanding riders in MotoGP history.
Enea Bastianini's manager, facing replacement due to Marquez, has highlighted a significant shift in tactics from the leaders at Ducati, notably Gigi Dall'Igna.
"Every individual is entitled to their own actions within their own living spaces, clearly, considering there could be tactics we're unaware of," Carlo Pernat mentioned to Motosprint.
"Nonetheless, the strategy focusing on younger participants, implemented after the Dovizioso era, has now been contradicted, despite its proven success until this point."
"Unexpectedly, the approach shifted, resulting in the release of younger employees who in turn are likely to bolster competing brands."
They allowed two cyclists, aged 26 and 27 [Bastianini and Jorge Martin], to depart in favor of retaining a 31-year-old, known as Marc Marquez.
"I wouldn't have taken that action, considering the recent strategy was successful.
"However, I grasp that it might be a plausible concept."
"Now our goal is to unite two major figures, and that's perfectly fine."
Ducati has faced setbacks previously with the significant signings of Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi.
After focusing on nurturing talent from within their ranks, they broke a 15-year championship drought when Bagnaia secured the 2022 title.
Bagnaia stands a chance this season to clinch his third consecutive championship, competing against three other Ducati contestants.
In the coming year, the objective will significantly change as Marquez transitions to their main team, joining forces with Bagnaia, and gains access to advanced equipment.
