Ducati Faces Uncertain Future with Pramac: Satellite Team’s Departure Looms Amid Rider Shifts and Contract Dilemmas
Ducati acknowledges "there's a genuine threat" of Pramac's departure
"Everyone in the motorcycle community is hoping Pramac will take a unique approach"
Ducati has acknowledged the real chance that Pramac might choose to depart in 2025.
Uncertainty has loomed over the satellite team throughout the year, and recent developments have further complicated matters, particularly with Marc Marquez's decision to join the factory Ducati team next season.
Ducati disclosed their plan to retain both Marquez and Jorge Martin, aiming to provide Pramac with an elite competitor for championship contention once more.
However, Martin has inked a deal with Aprilia, resulting in Pramac being left without a replacement, all while his current contract is due to run out this year.
"The danger is genuine," stated Ducati's chief Gigi Dall’Igna in an interview with Sky Italia, regarding Pramac's departure from their team.
"The entire motorcycle community is eager to see Pramac break away from its usual association with Ducati and venture into new territory."
"However, it would represent a letdown not just personally but also in terms of sports, given that Pramac and Paolo Campinoti have long stood by our side."
"They contribute to the achievements we're currently enjoying."
"It would indeed be regrettable; everything must be assessed, yet the issue genuinely persists."
Last week at the Italian MotoGP, Pramac's path forward appeared to be made clear when team manager Gino Borsoi announced their plans to operate GP25 Ducatis in the upcoming year.
Nonetheless, Mauro Grassilli, the sporting director for Ducati, subsequently affirmed that a contract had not been finalized at that time.
According to reports, the existing agreement between Pramac and Ducati contains an option that allows the satellite team to extend their partnership for an additional two years, provided they exercise this option by July 31.
However, it has not been turned on as of now.
Yamaha is actively seeking to expand its brand by acquiring a satellite team for the 2025 season, and it's believed they have presented Pramac with an attractive proposal.
Yamaha has consistently exhibited optimism and assurance in achieving their desired outcomes.
It remains uncertain if Pramac will choose to utilize their contractual option to stay with Ducati for the upcoming two years or switch their allegiance to Yamaha.
It's evident that, in the coming year, they won't be able to depend on Marquez or Martin.
Franco Morbidelli, who is also nearing the end of his contract, remains with the team. Additionally, they could acquire Fermin Aldeguer, a promising Moto2 rider set to move up to a Ducati MotoGP team the following year.
As of now, Martin from Pramac is at the forefront of the MotoGP championship, having completed seven rounds.
