Gabor Talmacsi and Giancarlo Fisichella Support Balaton Park
Hungary’s 125cc Grand Prix World Champion Gabor Talmacsi and ex-Formula 1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella discuss Balaton Park.
Gabor Talmacsi, a celebrated motorcycle racer from Hungary who competed in grand prix events from 2001 to 2010, is optimistic that the recently declared MotoGP event in Hungary will advance the careers of local racers.
Between 2005 and 2008, Talmacsi achieved victory in nine 125GP races, creating a historic moment for Hungary by securing the 125cc championship title in
In 2009, he briefly transitioned to the 250cc category, but later completed the season by participating in 12 MotoGP races for Scot Honda, achieving a highest finish of 12th place.
Following a single season in Moto2 in 2011, where he secured one podium finish, Talmacsi transitioned to the World Supersport series. However, his career as a rider was abruptly halted due to a severe injury; debris from an engine malfunction fractured his tibia, resulting in lasting muscle damage.
During Talmacsi's peak in grand prix racing, throngs of Hungarian supporters would journey to races like the one in Brno, Czech Republic. Their enthusiasm helped sustain the hope for a Hungarian MotoGP event.
Scheduled for August 22-24, 2025, the new Balaton Park circuit is expected to host the nation's first motorcycle grand prix since 1992.
According to Talmacsi, organizing MotoGP and Superbike races in Hungary not only serves as a major sporting event but also provides a chance to advance the careers of young riders, highlight the sport, and offer a vision for future generations.
"My goal is to enhance the visibility of motorcycling, not only as a sport but also as a mode of transportation, and to help educate young people about road safety."
"The 2025 races could significantly contribute to increasing awareness regarding this issue."
The layout of the Balaton Park track will undergo changes in three specific sections to comply with the Grade A license standards necessary for hosting MotoGP and WorldSBK events.
Past Formula 1 Grand Prix champion Giancarlo Fisichella has tested out the present 4.115km track by driving on it.
Fisichella expressed his admiration for the unique qualities of the Balaton Park Circuit after experiencing it for the first time.
"The circuit offers a complete package with its exciting mix of fast turns, difficult hairpins, and impressive chicanes."
"The course has a smooth flow, providing an excellent racing experience."
"The initial turn and the conclusion of the back straightaway are ideal for passing maneuvers. Overall, Balaton Park offers a delightful driving experience."
