Brad Binder Optimistic After Testing New KTM MotoGP Bike at Misano: A Glimpse into the Future of Racing
Brad Binder is positive about the latest KTM MotoGP motorcycle's trajectory
"Adjusting to its traits required a bit of time, but everything's fine."
The Misano MotoGP test presented KTM's official MotoGP racers with their initial opportunity to try out the advanced RC16 model, previously operated by the manufacturer's test pilots during select wildcard appearances.
Brad Binder experienced a day of discovery at Misano, ending on a hopeful note.
"He remarked that the day was quite engaging," he noted. "Initially, the circuit was a bit rough and quite unkempt. After taking the new motorcycle for several rounds, I noticed a distinct feel to it. Adapting to its unique traits took a moment, but everything turned out fine.
"The motorcycle feels stable. We'll have a clearer understanding following a few trial rides, but I'm optimistic about the progress."
In addition to the aerodynamic adjustments and configuration efforts noted by Guidotti, Miller had the opportunity to test Michelin's upcoming front tire, scheduled for release in 2025.
"The day went pretty well," commented the Australian. "I had the opportunity to test out the latest Michelin front tire and was quite pleased with its performance."
"We experimented with a fairing and didn't do much beyond that. With another Grand Prix on the horizon, it won't be long before we're doing more laps at Misano."
In a day filled with complexities from a logistics standpoint, the team's primary racers, Binder and Miller, took to the track for testing, joined by the factory's test rider, Dani Pedrosa.
"Brad experimented with an alternate setup, utilizing a 2024 model that was under development, followed by a possible new iteration of the motorcycle," stated Francesco Guidotti, the team principal of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.
"Conducting this evaluation in a single day has been a significant challenge and somewhat hazardous, given the limited time available for each bike or run session."
"Dani is working on an advanced version of the current motorcycle, primarily for this season, while Jack is concentrating on refining the aerodynamics and configuration through thorough analysis."
"Numerous cyclists and bicycles will be present, and it's essential to comprehend as much as possible to inform our choices for the upcoming weeks and beyond."
Sebastian Risse, who oversees the technical aspects of KTM's MotoGP team, detailed how the Misano testing session was utilized by KTM to test out specific components. This step was in preparation for assembling more comprehensive setups to be experimented with at the year's concluding official test in Valencia, scheduled for November.
"Risse noted that this is the final stage before the next season officially kicks off in Valencia. He mentioned that the goal wasn't to consolidate everything at this point but rather to verify individual elements, with the integration planned for Valencia."
