Auferstehung in Carbon: Der Aston Martin Vanquish 2025 und sein mächtiger V12-Motor

Published

on

Aston Martin's upcoming 2025 Vanquish model continues to champion the V12 engine. The vehicle's stunning carbon fiber body is sure to turn heads. For some enthusiasts, nothing beats the allure of a V12 engine. Despite the DB12's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 delivering a robust 680 horsepower and producing a great sound, for them, it falls short on cylinder count. Hence, Aston Martin is reviving one of the automotive world's most iconic names with a V12 under the hood: the Vanquish.

Following a six-year hiatus and an unsuccessful endeavor to construct a mid-engine supercar, the Aston Martin Vanquish has made a comeback, embracing its original grand tourer (GT) essence. This audaciously grand, potent, and opulent vehicle is equipped with a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, capable of delivering 835 horsepower and achieving a top speed of 345 kilometers per hour.

The engine shares its basic dimensions with the previous Aston V12 model, but has been extensively reworked to boost both power and torque, now hitting an impressive 1,000 Newton-meters. To achieve this while complying with more stringent emission regulations, the V12 has been equipped with a new engine block, heads, ports, camshafts, connecting rods, turbochargers, fuel injectors, and repositioned spark plugs – a complete overhaul. Aston claims the engine has been so transformed, it's indistinguishable from its predecessor.

Similar to the previous DBS Superleggera, the engine is paired with a rear-mounted eight-speed automatic transmission, however, akin to the latest Vantage and the DB12, it boasts an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.

With an output of 160 horsepower per liter, this engine boasts the highest specific power ever achieved by an Aston Martin V12. The 2024 Vanquish now leads the pack, marking the pinnacle of ongoing advancements. Since the debut of the DB7 Vantage in 1999, performance and torque in Aston Martin's V12 flagship models have doubled.

Aston Martin Vanquish Reinterpretation

The latest V12 engine boasts several advanced features, including a fortified cylinder block and connecting rods, redesigned cylinder heads with reprofiled camshafts, and revamped intake and exhaust ports. Additionally, repositioned spark plugs and new fuel injectors with an increased flow rate enhance combustion, leading to top-of-the-class power and heightened efficiency. Furthermore, the introduction of new turbochargers, which operate at higher speeds with less inertia, contributes to greater power output and more responsive throttle.

In a detailed upgrade, the latest turbochargers have been installed that boast a reduced inertia and an increased rotational speed by 15%, enhancing the energy harvested from exhaust gases. This upgrade feeds additional power to the engine and elevates the new V12 engine to unprecedented performance levels. Additionally, the introduction of new fuel injectors, which offer a 10% increase in flow rate, allows the engine to achieve optimal power while still meeting emission standards.

The engine now includes a cutting-edge feature known as Boost Reserve, which allows for an increase in turbo pressure beyond what's normally needed for partial throttle, ensuring that drivers have extra turbo pressure at the ready should they require more power. This is accomplished through meticulous coordination between the throttle and the electronically controlled wastegate. Aston Martin has indicated that the final drive ratio has been selected to facilitate a high top speed, without compromising on rapid acceleration – the vehicle can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds.

Like all modern Aston Martins, the Vanquish features a bonded and extruded aluminum monocoque structure. However, unlike the DB12 and Vantage, its body is primarily composed of carbon fiber. Aston Martin lists the dry weight of the vehicle as 1,774 kg. The tires are a custom set of Pirelli P-Zero, with sizes 275/35 in the front and 325/30 in the rear. The car also comes standard with forged wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes to keep the unsprung weight under control.

Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with advanced suspension technology. The Vanquish boasts Bilstein DTX dampers, similar to those in the new Vantage and DB12, and includes a six-axis inertia measurement unit that allows for more accurate control over the dampers, electronic differential, and traction/stability control systems. There's also the introduction of a new feature called Corner Braking, which ensures rear stability when braking into a corner.

The interior of the Vanquish mirrors that of other modern Aston Martins, featuring a revamped central console packed with tangible controls and a custom-designed entertainment system. A major flaw often pointed out in previous Aston Martin models was their lackluster cabins, but the Vanquish's cockpit appears to be anything but dull.

Compared to the DB12, the Vanquish boasts increased dimensions, being lengthier, wider, and sleeker in profile. It stretches nearly 8 centimeters more between the wheels, extends 16.5 centimeters more from end to end, and spans an extra 6 centimeters across. However, a reduction in height gives it a lower stance. It unmistakably bears the Aston signature, though it features a more sculpted bonnet at the front and pronounced bulges at the rear.

The sudden termination of the rear fin distinguishes this model from other recent Aston Martin releases, drawing inspiration from a selection of vehicles that the brand competed with at Le Mans in the 1960s, namely the DP212, DP214, and DP215. Additionally, the silhouette and rear design elements bear resemblance to the exclusive Valour, which in turn nods to the robust GT models from Aston Martin's 1970s lineup. This marks the third occasion that Aston Martin has employed the Vanquish moniker.

Even in this case, V12 engines remain in existence.

Aston Martin has yet to disclose the cost of the upcoming Vanquish model, however, it's projected that the starting price will likely be in the range of 250,000 to 300,000 Euros. The premium price tag compared to the rest of the lineup can be justified by its limited production run, with the company aiming to produce just 1,000 units annually. Customers can anticipate the initial deliveries to commence from October 2024 onwards.
