Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Crash Allegations Following Aragon GP Incident with Bagnaia
Alex Marquez responds: “I would never intentionally collide with another rider”
Alex Marquez denies any claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating: 'It goes against my principles and the principles of this sport'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain comments following Sunday's Aragon MotoGP incident involving Francesco Bagnaia.
The two racers were in a serious collision as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were required because they found that neither rider was mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini rider did not try to steer clear of a collision and instead maintained his speed.
Bagnaia told MotoGP.com that he heard the other rider accelerating as soon as he went into the next corner, indicating the rider was aiming to make contact.
"I wanted to examine the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and then 40 percent right up until the crash. This behavior seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on his social media accounts:
"Having reviewed certain remarks, I wish to clarify the following points:
"I would never intentionally collide with another competitor and I refuse to be accused of such behavior; it goes against my principles and the very essence of this sport."
"The key takeaway for me is the discussion I had with Pecco yesterday, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"It's now time for me to take a break and rejuvenate so I can be in top shape for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to compete at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, Alex's brother and teammate, clinched victory in the Aragon race. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin secured second place, extending his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
