Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision Claims Following Aragon MotoGP Incident with Bagnaia
Alex Marquez replies: "I would never intentionally collide with another rider."
Alex Marquez dismisses claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, "It's not in my nature, nor is it part of this sport's ethos."
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain remarks following his incident with Francesco Bagnaia during Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race.
The duo experienced a serious crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini racer for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were required because they found that neither rider was chiefly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini racer maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
"As I came into the next corner, which was turn 13, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating, trying to make contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I wanted to examine the data… It showed that he kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent right up until the crash. This behavior seems quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several statements, I would like to clarify the following:
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of doing so. Such behavior goes against my principles and the essence of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now I need to take some time to rest and recuperate so that I can be in top shape for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape major injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
Alex's teammate and brother, Marc Marquez, clinched victory at the Aragon race. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin secured second place, extending his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
