2025 Porsche Taycan Shatters Range Expectations with a 318-Mile EPA Rating
The updated Porsche Taycan now boasts an EPA-estimated range of 318 miles, as officially announced by the carmaker to Green Car Reports on Monday.
The latest model of the Porsche Taycan, the 2025 edition, has started arriving at American car dealers. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ranges, which have been determined by Porsche and will be featured on the vehicles' display stickers, confirm that the significant advancements in distance coverage and energy use efficiency, which were emphasized during the model's technical overhaul, are reflected in the U.S. evaluations.
The Performance Battery Plus, a larger battery option, pushes the range to a maximum of 318 miles. However, the Taycan 4S sees a reduction to 295 miles, and the Taycan Turbo falls slightly to 292 miles, due to its more powerful driving system and the use of more robust wheels and tires. What stands out when considering these figures is that the Taycan series maintains a minimum range of 266 miles with the bigger battery, even for the high-performance Turbo S, and the sharply designed Turbo GT with the Weissach package still achieves 269 miles. The 2025 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo variants, which feature a distinct roof design, offer a range that varies between 261 and 277 miles.

The increase in distance the car can travel isn't just about enlarging the battery. Sure, Porsche expanded it, but there's more to it. The Performance Battery Plus went from a total of 93.4 kWh and 83.4 kWh available for the 2024 Taycan, to 105 kWh total and 97 kWh available in the 2025 version—this equates to about a 15% growth in the battery's capacity.
The previous model of the Taycan could cover a distance of up to 246 miles, but the latest 2025 version has increased this range by almost 30%. Porsche has highlighted significant advancements in the efficiency of the drivetrain, enhanced the brake regeneration and overall energy recovery, as well as refining the design to improve aerodynamics and reduce rolling resistance.

Equipped with the more compact "Performance" battery, the Taycan can travel as far as 274 miles, surpassing last year's range with a bigger battery. The default battery in the current Taycan offers 83.6 kWh of usable energy (89 kWh total), which is slightly higher than what's available in the bigger battery set for 2024.
It is anticipated that the 2025 Taycan will consistently achieve better range figures. Porsche has revamped the vehicle's thermal management system by incorporating an 800-volt climate compressor with more power, along with a heat pump that operates continually for cabin heating.

Upon its debut in 2020, the Porsche Taycan wasn't exactly a paragon of electric vehicle efficiency, setting aside the electric truck category, of course. Nevertheless, it has seen a steady stream of enhancements, with the 2023 model featuring refined motor performance and the 2022 version boasting advancements in thermal management.
Green Car Reports' initial test drive of the 2025 Porsche Taycan in April revealed that the updated version finally delivers on its promise to not only surpass Tesla in terms of tech and driving features but also to offer a similar amount of range extension during brief stops on long drives.
Porsche boasts a rapid charging time for the 2025 Taycan, claiming it can go from 10% to 80% battery in only 18 minutes. This is thanks to an improved charge curve that peaks at 320 kW, or 270 kW for the standard battery, making full use of 350-kW CCS charging stations. In terms of the EPA's range measurement, this means 70% of the Taycan's battery can deliver an impressive 223 miles. With these figures, the Taycan is now a formidable competitor in the rapid-charging market against leaders like the Lucid Air and Tesla Model S. This holds true whether the focus is on reducing energy consumption or on maximizing performance.
