Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024, Davide Brivio Confirms
Davide Brivio has confirmed that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia by the conclusion of 2024, with the announcement made during the Aragon MotoGP.
During the past weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from the team when the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who originally joined the Trackhouse team when it first started as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team back in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project. This project has completed its second season with the Noale brand and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with Simon Crafar, a pit lane reporter for MotoGP.com, prior to last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision. He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team’s effort to explore “a new direction”.
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's departure was a topic they had discussed and ultimately decided upon. He also gave significant credit to Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
"To be honest, when I got here, I discovered a team he has developed over the years. Moreover, most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for what he has accomplished."
“As Trackhouse, we felt that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. While it’s unfortunate in some ways, it’s just part of doing business.”
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this point. The Dutchman, who once clinched a victory in the 250cc Grand Prix, served as team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in Yamaha's factory MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
