Trackhouse Aprilia Confirms Wilco Zeelenberg’s Departure at End of 2024 Season, Announces Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of 2024. This confirmation was made during the Aragon MotoGP.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who originally joined the Trackhouse team back when it launched as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, is set to depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, marking its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane journalist Simon Crafar prior to last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became a member of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision to make. He added that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore a “new direction”.
"We talked about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio stated. "We made this choice together. Wilco deserves a lot of praise for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he had developed over the years. Additionally, most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for what he has achieved."
"As Trackhouse, we felt that looking ahead, we needed to take a new approach. It's unfortunate in one respect, but it's a business decision in another."
"It's never easy to handle, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
The future plans for Zeelenberg remain uncertain at this time. Zeelenberg, who once claimed victory in a 250cc Grand Prix, served as the team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales within the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to a team manager role with the Petronas SRT team.
