Thrills and Spills at Aragon: Brad Binder’s Burnout and Jack Miller’s Rins Encounter Highlight Action-Packed MotoGP Weekend
Brad Binder exclaimed, "I ended up doing a rolling burnout again!" Meanwhile, Jack Miller remarked that he was "nipped by Rins." Binder elaborated, "I had a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend in terms of points since the season started in Qatar, finishing 4th and 6th at Aragon.
Although he veered off course in both races, his seventh-place finish was achieved from a relatively better starting position on a cluttered grid.
Throughout the middle portion of the race, Binder followed closely behind newcomer Pedro Acosta. This pursuit turned into a fight for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with five laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained slightly beyond grasp.
"I had a solid strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start, and I did another rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!" Binder said with a smile.
"I was able to navigate through and overtake several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating while trailing others for the majority of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating quickly out of the corners since I couldn't approach them too fast due to the front tires overheating. However, this strategy backfired, and by the end, the left side of the tire was completely worn out."
"I gave it my all to overtake Pedro, but my car had no power left."
"Aside from that, we made a few significant improvements this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Jack Miller, starting from 15th position on the grid, made an impressive start and climbed to eighth place by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian rider soon faced challenges with maintaining rear grip.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins on the final lap and losing his ninth-place position, he, along with two other riders, received a 16-second penalty for tyre pressure violations after the race, which ultimately placed him in 15th.
"A lengthy race," Miller remarked. "The track conditions have varied once more; it was quite dirty for most of the weekend but felt more slippery today."
"I gave it my all. It was challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I had a major highside incident while exiting the final corner."
“I found my groove and focused on managing the situation carefully. There were several challenges when transitioning from the outer part to the center of the tire… but I managed to finish successfully.
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it challenging to keep up with the guys ahead. We'll continue to work hard."
"I'm pleased to finish in the top ten, but Rins overtook me on the back straight during the final lap. I was trying my best to be precise, but I didn't get a good drive and he managed to pass me."
“We will return to Misano.”
This weekend, KTM's team will include a fifth rider, as test rider Pol Espargaro joins the lineup as a wild-card entry.
“Head to Misano now, keeping in mind the upcoming test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which should provide some assistance for the future,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will begin with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, as Acosta currently stands in fifth place in the world championship.
Miller is likely to be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy. He currently holds 15th place, trailing Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
