Tesla Issues Massive Recall on Over 1.8 Million Vehicles for Hood Latch Safety Concerns
Tesla initiates a massive recall affecting nearly 1.9 million cars over concerns about hoods that may not secure properly
Tesla, in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has issued a recall notice on Tuesday for a total of 1,849,638 vehicles across various models such as the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X.
The problem originates from the car's mechanism for securing the hood, along with its accompanying computer programming. There's a chance that this system might not recognize when the hood isn't properly fastened if it's been accessed beforehand. Consequently, this oversight could result in the hood suddenly flipping open during transit.
Tesla has initiated an inquiry into reports from customers in China regarding unexpected incidents of hoods opening on Model 3 and Model Y vehicles as of March 25.
Tesla has confirmed that models such as the Model X, S, 3, and Y produced post-July 15 were equipped with version 2024.20.100 firmware that contained the necessary software update.
The recall encompasses a range of vehicles such as the Model S sedans from 2021 to 2024, Model X and Model Y crossovers from 2021 to 2024 and 2020 to 2024 respectively, along with the 2021-2024 Model 3s. All these vehicles were produced in China between September 21, 2020, and June 2, 2024.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has logged the recall with the campaign identifier 24V-554.
