Tesla introduces new off-road feature for Cybertruck

In May, Tesla announced a software update for the Cybertruck that includes an off-road mode. A video was just released that details the functionality of this new feature.

Similar to the all-terrain functions found in other electric trucks such as the Rivian R1T and GMC Hummer EV, Tesla's version offers a variety of options that tweak the vehicle's behavior for different landscapes, along with assistance features to simplify the process of maneuvering through these areas.

When using the off-road setting, the Overland feature enhances grip for slow-paced, intricate maneuvering across rocky terrain, whereas the Baja setting is tailored for swift driving on unstable grounds. Additionally, motorists have the option to modify the vehicle's balance between stability and nimbleness using a slider on the touchscreen, depending on their immediate requirements.

The Wade mode feature on the Cybertruck elevates its ground clearance and injects air under pressure into the area housing the battery to prevent water ingress. Tesla's guide for off-road Cybertruck users states that this enables the vehicle to traverse through water as deep as 32 inches. However, this function can only be utilized for a duration of 30 minutes and activating the pressurization of the battery area could require a wait of around 10 minutes, as pointed out by Tesla.

Tesla has integrated a feature known as Trail Assist, which functions like a cruise control for off-road driving at slow speeds, mirroring capabilities found in other manufacturers' off-road vehicles. This system consistently manages a predetermined speed (even on inclines and declines), allowing the driver to concentrate on navigating around impediments.

In November 2023, Tesla unveiled the final production model of the Cybertruck, which closely resembles the original concept's striking stainless-steel design from 2019. However, the actual market version falls short of the initial promises of a $39,900 base price and a maximum range of 500 miles. Since hitting the market, the Cybertruck has faced several recalls for issues including malfunctioning wiper motors, unsecured trim pieces, and accelerator pedals that can become stuck.
