Silent Luxury Meets Raw Power: Bentley Unveils Ultra Performance Hybrid for the Next Flying Spur
The upcoming Bentley Flying Spur is set to feature the brand's latest high-powered hybrid system
This luxury vehicle will offer the option of silent cruising or forceful acceleration
Bentley's forthcoming iteration of the Flying Spur will be equipped with the company's new Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain, which has been recently introduced in the new Continental GT Speed. According to Bentley, this powertrain will transform the new Flying Spur into "the most powerful, dynamic, and efficient four-door car in Bentley's 105-year history."
The upcoming Flying Spur is set to replace the current version introduced in 2019. This new model boasts a robust 782 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque, thanks to the synergy of a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine paired with a potent yet compact electric motor. Bentley's future lies in this high-performance hybrid powertrain, which, according to the British automaker, offers a versatile driving experience that ranges from high-octane supercar thrills to quiet, smooth electric cruising.

The new Flying Spur is designed to deliver the quintessential Bentley sedan experience through its powertrain, offering both strength and serenity, complemented by the benefit of a silent electric drive for at least 72 kilometers. The total distance the Flying Spur can cover is expected to reach up to 800 kilometers, with carbon dioxide emissions reported to be as low as 40 g/km, according to the manufacturer's statement.
Bentley continues its legacy of enhancing top-tier combustion engines with cutting-edge technology to boost power. In the 1920s, superchargers were the initial step toward today's use of turbochargers which began in the 1980s. Now, Bentley is advancing even further by incorporating "electric boosting" through a potent hybrid system to elevate performance.
The 2024 Bentley High-Efficiency Hybrid V8 Model
The latest system boasts an impressive increase of nearly 150 horsepower over the W12 engine found in the current Flying Spur Speed, alongside an additional 100 Nm of torque. Thanks to the fusion of a V8 engine with electric power, drivers can now enjoy enhanced power and torque. This translates to a significant boost from the electric motor during acceleration at low speeds and mid-range revs, as well as an augmented performance from the V8 engine at higher speeds.
