Rivian Transforms Historic Gas Station into Eco-Friendly EV Charging Gateway to Yosemite

Rivian has established an electric vehicle charging hub known as the Yosemite Outpost, which was previously a petrol station. This charging station will not only provide a strategic pause point for travelers entering or leaving the national park but will also function as a center for electric vehicle learning.

The site has undergone a transformation from its original incarnation as a blacksmith shop, followed by stints as a repair shop and finally a gas station known as Vern’s Groveland Gas which shut down several years back. Today, Rivian has repurposed the space into a charging station for electric vehicles, situated by one of the nation's most frequented national parks.

Rivian has announced that their forthcoming facility will not only provide information about electric vehicle charging but will also feature various conveniences. Additionally, it will serve as a drop-off location for recycling materials.

With input from US Solar, Rivian claims the location will achieve a net-zero status, producing enough energy to match its consumption—making it a remarkable achievement for a charging station.

Earlier in the year, Rivian disclosed that its onboard navigation system would prioritize routes based on the dependability ratings of DC rapid charging stations, opting for those with a proven track record of effectively charging its vehicles. According to the company, its Adventure Network charging stations boast an operational efficiency exceeding 98%.

In the previous year, Rivian initiated charging fees for its Adventure Network charging stations and plans to extend access to additional electric vehicles that are compatible with the CCS charging port. The company has also announced its decision to integrate the NACS charging port, originally developed by Tesla, into its future electric vehicles, such as the anticipated Rivian R2, which is priced at $45,000.
