Neuer Audi Q5 und SQ5 (2025): Aggressives Design und Bis zu 367 PS für die Dritte Generation

Published

on

The Audi Q5 and SQ5 models are set to make a grand entrance in 2025, boasting up to 367 horsepower. They come with an upgraded super cockpit, an efficient gasoline engine borrowed from the A5, options for plug-in hybrids, and a forthcoming Sportback variant. Devotees of the iconic four rings, rejoice – a fresh Audi Q5 is on its way. Since its inception in 2008, a whopping 2.6 million units have found owners, with the first generation being a crowd favorite at 1.6 million units sold compared to its successor. The current model, in circulation since 2016, is long overdue for an update.

The third iteration of the Q5 may still be identifiable as such from the exterior, but it has undergone significant changes elsewhere. Let's take a closer look at the innovative features that Ingolstadt has introduced to rival the BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC.

Exterior

The newly unveiled Q5 follows in the footsteps of the recent A5, utilizing the so-called Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). Gone are the days of Audi's mid-size SUV sporting a conservative, straightforward look. The latest model features a more assertive and angular appearance, marking a significant shift from its predecessors. Audi itself describes the vehicle as exhibiting a stronger SUV presence with pronounced muscle. Key design features including the headlights, shoulder lines, and taillights have all been elevated – the latter boasting the now-typical continuous light strip.

As enthusiasts of Audi may be aware, lighting design is currently considered a sacred element by those at the Ingolstadt headquarters. The new Matrix-LED headlights are equipped with 15 adjustable segments, offering a choice of eight distinct lighting patterns. The excitement continues at the rear with the second generation of digital OLED tail lights. We've already witnessed this remarkable backlighting technology in the A5/S5 and A6 e-tron models. Now, the dynamic lighting feature is making its debut in the Q5.

Upcoming Audi Q5 Model (Set for 2024

Meaning: The lighting graphic is capable of motion, even when the vehicle is in transit. To achieve this, six OLED panels, which comprise a total of 266 segments, utilize a specially designed algorithm to refresh the image several times every second.

Additionally, Audi is introducing a first-of-its-kind feature in Europe with a projection light in the rear spoiler that casts an image onto the rear window, effectively enlarging the area of the brake light. This feature is designed to be visible only to those following the vehicle; the driver will not notice it when looking in the rearview mirror. However, these lighting extras do come at an additional cost.

No additional cost is required for the dimensions of 4,717 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, 1,651 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. Compared to its predecessor, the new Q5 has increased in size by approximately 3.5 centimeters in length, while the other measurements remain almost the same.

Customers can select from three exterior design options: Standard, Advanced, and S line. Wheel sizes range from 17 to 21 inches, with 19-inch wheels as the standard offering for the S line and S models. Additionally, there are optional aerodynamically optimized wheels available in sizes from 17 to 19 inches.

Powertrains

In terms of engines, the close link to the new A5 is unmistakable. Audi's latest fuel-efficient engines, equipped with what's called MHEV Plus technology, almost qualify as full hybrids.

The latest 2.0 TFSI engine with 204 horsepower, the well-known 2.0 TDI also with 204 horsepower, and the new 3.0 V6 TFSI producing 367 horsepower found in the SQ5, are all equipped with a 48-volt lithium iron phosphate battery of 1.7 kWh capacity. This system includes a belt-driven starter-generator alongside a new powertrain generator (essentially an electric motor) that is positioned directly on the transmission's output shaft. This generator not only provides an additional power boost of up to 18 kW but also has the capacity to recover energy up to 25 kW.

Upcoming Audi Q5 Model Set for 2024 Release

Maneuvering and parking can be done using only electric power. The electric component remains active up to speeds of approximately 130 km/h. The use of electric driving is intended for low-speed urban travel, during steady flow on rural roads, and when approaching an upcoming town.

All engines are linked to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, with the four-cylinder gasoline model also available with front-wheel drive. In 2025, two plug-in hybrids will be introduced, both based on the 2.0-liter gasoline engine. They will produce 299 and 367 horsepower and, as it stands, they will offer an electric range of over 80 kilometers, an increase from the previous Q5's 60 kilometers.

Chassis

Audi aims to equip the latest Q5 with a five-link front and rear axle configuration designed to deliver "largely neutral handling." Additionally, the enhanced tuning of the suspension and steering systems is expected to result in a "noticeable increase in comfort."

The vehicle comes standard with a steel suspension and progressive steering. However, there is an option for a sports suspension featuring passive FSD shock absorbers (Frequency Selective Damping) and a more responsive front axle. The FSD technology primarily minimizes damping at higher frequencies, such as on cobblestone roads, while maintaining substantial damping at lower frequencies, which occur during lane changes or while taking corners. This sports suspension is a standard feature in the SQ5 model.

The third choice available is an adjustable air suspension system. It is reported to deliver a more noticeable difference between the comfort and sport settings compared to the previous model. The "Lift" feature can raise the vehicle by up to 45 mm, while the "Offroad" setting offers a 30 mm elevation. Conversely, in the Dynamic mode, the system lowers the car by 15 mm.

Interior

The core concepts of the redesign, featuring the OLED curved screen setup (11.9 inches for instruments, 14.5 inches for infotainment) along with the additional choice of a 10.9-inch screen for the passenger side, are familiar to us from the A5. For the latest Q5 model, the dashboard design has been slightly adapted to fit the SUV style, yet it largely remains consistent with their recent design approach.

Alright, the new interior design is equally impressive here. At first glance, the Q5's cabin appears to be of the same high-quality as the A5's.

Upcoming Audi Q5 Model Year 2024

The entertainment and information system operates on the Android Automotive OS platform. Content updates are delivered through over-the-air technology, ensuring that Audi connect services remain current. Applications, such as YouTube, are integrated directly into the MMI interface, eliminating the need for a smartphone to access these features.

The latest head-up display boasts an image size that is 85% larger compared to the previous model and now includes the convenience of being controllable directly from the steering wheel. Additionally, the fresh Audi Assistant, featuring a unique avatar for the first time, employs ChatGPT technology to cater to the queries and requests of the vehicle's occupants.

For an additional fee, a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system featuring a 685-watt amplifier and 16 speakers can be installed for you, which includes Vehicle Noise Compensation (VNC) to counteract disruptive interior noise.

Audi officials can't seem to stop talking about the latest feature in their cars – the interactive light strip that sits between the dashboard and the windshield. This isn't just a flashy gimmick; it has practical uses too. It can display various things like the battery's charge level, act as a turn signal indicator, or alert the driver to traffic or obstacles when opening the door.

Upon initially testing the seating area in the back, it was found to be quite spacious. The makers from Ingolstadt are proud to highlight the adjustable rear seat feature. The cargo space ranges from 520 to 1,473 liters, slightly less than the predecessor's 520 to 1,520 liters. However, the interior loading edge has been lowered to facilitate easier loading and unloading. Additionally, the luggage compartment cover can now be stored under the loading floor.

Launch and Pricing

The Q5 and SQ5 will be available at dealerships beginning in the first quarter of 2025, with orders being accepted immediately. The primary markets for these models are North America (44%) and Europe (35%). Pricing begins at €52,300 for the 204 horsepower petrol engine with front-wheel drive. The four-wheel drive version starts at €54,650.

You'll need to shell out at least 57,100 euros for the 204-horsepower diesel variant. The SQ5, equipped with a 367-horsepower V6 engine, starts at 82,900 euros. A Q5 Sportback will be available approximately six months after the initial launch.
