Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series: Ein Stern der Extraklasse – Luxus und Eleganz auf vier Rädern
Introducing the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series: The Star Rises
Unrivaled luxury from the factory SL
Aficionados of the Mercedes SL are aware that the iconic standing star has never adorned the hood; the symbol has always been integrated into the grille. That has changed. Join us in welcoming the new Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series. This luxury vehicle, with its impressively lengthy title, made its debut at the Monterey Car Week.
The SL 680 Monogram Series marks a first for Mercedes, being the inaugural SL model to receive the Maybach luxury treatment – hence, it's no longer called the Mercedes-AMG SL. Another fresh feature is the harmonious color and material scheme that unifies the car's exterior and interior. The Maybach emblem serves as a cohesive design feature, adding special touches from the front of the car to the back, both inside and out. While the creators describe it as "sensual" and "holistic," we might liken it to flashy opulence, or even a Louis Vuitton handbag on wheels.

The distinct contour of the brand-specific, chrome-finished grille is illuminated, as is the Maybach logo. The unique hood features a prominent, upright Mercedes star and is adorned with a central chrome stripe. To further enhance its exclusivity, the obsidian black hood can optionally include a monochromatic graphite grey Maybach pattern.
This procedure is quite complex and involves a significant amount of manual labor. Initially, the hood is coated with a primer which is then sanded down by hand. Following this, the Maybach pattern is printed onto the surface. Each stage of the process demands stringent technical standards and necessitates supreme accuracy in execution. To finish, the hood is treated with a matte clear coat, hand-sanded once more, and then refined with an additional layer of the matte clear coat.
The headlights' interior is adorned with a sophisticated rose gold accent. Its specific front apron highlights the vehicle's width with horizontal air intakes. The windshield frame is finished with a glossy chrome treatment. Additionally, there's a chrome insert along the side sill paneling. The Mercedes-Maybach SL cruises on 21-inch forged wheels available in either a 5-hole pattern or a multi-spoke design.
At launch, the open two-seater will feature two specially curated design themes: The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series Red Ambience showcases a novel two-tone paint job with Obsidian black metallic on the upper part and MANUFAKTUR Garnet red metallic on the lower part of the body.
The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series White Ambience features a striking contrast between metallic Obsidian black and MANUFAKTUR Opal white magno. Additional exterior color options are available upon special request from customers. Inside, sustainably tanned crystal white MANUFAKTUR Exclusive Nappa leather and decorative parts in shiny silver chrome exude luxury. The market launch is set to begin in Europe in the spring of 2025, with other regions to follow. The price has not been disclosed yet, but it is expected to be in the six figures, likely starting with a 2.
Increased Maybach, enhanced SL:
A range of steps are to be taken to ensure a quiet and comfortable driving experience. These include a noise-reducing exhaust system, extensive sound insulation and absorption package, as well as a suspension designed for comfort and soft engine mounts.
Unfortunately, there's no V12 option: Hidden beneath the metal lies a setup featuring a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine generating 430 kW (585 horsepower), paired with a smoothly transitioning 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission with a tuned throttle response, and the 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. The vehicle also comes standard with rear-axle steering.
