In the realm of motor racing, there's a prestigious event that every Italian car should aspire to compete in at least once. This event is none other than the 1000 Miglia, known as "the most beautiful race in the world." This contemporary version of the historic race kicked off on June 11, 2024, in Brescia, featuring two remarkable vehicles among its participants.

Yes, for the first time in six years, Lancia is making a comeback in the road rally that spans across Italy. The brand from Turin will be showcasing an Aurelia B20 GT, driven by rally icon Miki Biasion, along with a fleet of the latest Ypsilons. These will be driven by both local and international journalists, as well as members of the company's management team who played a role in the model's development.

The mission is to celebrate the compact Italian five-door and its heritage by embarking on a unique journey through the numerous cities where it was conceived.

The 2024 1000 Miglia is undoubtedly a significant event for Lancia, which just recently unveiled its new Ypsilon. As we've mentioned in our news article, this compact Italian five-door is more than just a "new model" for the Italy-based manufacturer; it marks the official start of a new era for the brand in both Italy and Europe.

The car, which has seen an increase in size, technological advancements, and quality over time, is now available in both electric and hybrid versions. It had the chance to serve as an escort vehicle on the streets of certain cities during a major motorsport event, showcasing the Italian essence from which it originated.

Regarding locations: The inaugural city to receive the latest Ypsilon at the 2024 edition of the 1000 Miglia event is, without a doubt, Brescia. This city has traditionally been the starting point of this race and has witnessed numerous vehicles from the brand pass through over its nearly century-long history. Among them is the Aurelia B20 GT, which will be lining up at the starting grid alongside the Ypsilon this year.

Turin holds the distinction of being the second key city, recognized as the origin point for the iconic Italian brand. It's where the entire lineage of the Italian compact car has been crafted and engineered, from the inaugural model to the most current. Then there's Rome, the quintessential emblem of Italian culture, which, true to tradition, plays host to the classic parade along its major thoroughfares.

As previously stated, the new Ypsilon will serve as a support vehicle for the 1000 Miglia 2024, with Gianni Colonello, head of Lancia Design, and Paolo Loiotile, head of Lancia Product, behind the wheel, along with internationally renowned journalists.

A noteworthy model

When Lancia made its comeback to the 1000 Miglia after a six-year hiatus, the spotlight wasn't just on the new Lancia Ypsilon. Also deserving mention is the model that catapulted the Italian brand to global fame, subsequently leading to the creation of significant vehicles such as the new compact car.

The focus is on the vintage centerpiece of this year's "Race," the 1951 black Aurelia B20 GT, bearing the number 196, piloted by Miki Biasion alongside journalist Savina Confaloni.

The 42nd iteration of the legendary 1000 Miglia car rally is scheduled from June 11th to 15th, kicking off in Brescia. This year marks a first as the route will incorporate Genoa. Over 400 vintage vehicles will participate, traversing seven Italian regions in a counter-clockwise journey, reminiscent of the 2021 race.

In this edition, Motor1.com Italy is also participating, with Andrea Farina teaming up with Davide Cironi in an Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint.
