Exklusivität trifft Stil: Morgan enthüllt Pininfarina-designten Midsummer Roadster in limitierter Auflage
Pininfarina-Designed Morgan Midsummer: A Limited Edition Racy Roadster
This Italian-English open-top car is exclusive with only 50 units, all of which have already been snapped up
Since 2019, the Morgan Plus Six has been on the market, maintaining its classic retro look. To keep the model in the spotlight, the British specialty brand has collaborated with renowned designer Pininfarina to release a special limited edition called "Midsummer."
The Speedster, designed in the Barchetta fashion, boasts a stunning hand-hammered aluminum body that takes over 250 hours to craft. This two-seater sports car is limited to a production run of just 50 units, all of which have already been sold.
The Morgan Midsummer captures attention from every angle. Its design, influenced by the elongated tail styles of the 1930s and 1940s, comes from Pininfarina. Instead of the standard windshield, the Midsummer sports a set of sleek wind deflectors, which not only look stylish but also provide an interesting way to catch flies with your teeth while driving… The headlights are rounder and larger compared to the Plus Six, now incorporating indicators and daytime running lights.
The disc-shaped wheels add another vintage element, which also serves to enhance the car's aerodynamics. The airflow along the sides of the vehicle is more streamlined, although aerodynamics typically play a less significant role in the design of all Morgan models.
The attractive wheels come equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires. According to Morgan, this 19-inch forged wheel also reduces weight by 2.7 kilograms per wheel compared to the standard wheel, as it weighs only 10 kilograms. The whole vehicle has a dry weight of 1,000 kilograms.
The crafting of the car's bodywork is not the only time-intensive task, as the interior's teak wood takes over 30 hours to process. The dashboard is made up of an astonishing 126 layers of teak wood, while each door panel contains 120 layers. Morgan states that employing hundreds of layers of hand-shaped, laminated teak wood enhances the interior's durability compared to using larger pieces of wood.
Specific technical details haven't been disclosed, however, the standard Plus Six model features a BMW B58 engine. This engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that delivers 335 horsepower. Power is transmitted to the wheels through a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. As evident in official photos, the gear shift lever is also sourced from BMW. The standard model can accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, but the Midsummer edition might be quicker due to being around 114 kilograms lighter.
Prices have not been officially released, however, Autocar has reported that the fortunate owners have paid anywhere from $152,000 to $190,000, depending on the configuration. Production is set to start this year and due to the complex construction process, it will continue until 2025. The Midsummer will make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
