Aston Martin's Upcoming 2025 Vanquish: The V12 Endures

For some, nothing less than a V12 will do. Never mind that the DB12's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 delivers a thunderous 680 horsepower and sounds magnificent – it's the cylinder count that falls short for them. That's why Aston Martin is reviving one of the automotive world's most illustrious names with a V12 engine: the Vanquish.
Following a six-year hiatus and an unsuccessful attempt at creating a mid-engine supercar, the Aston Martin Vanquish has made a comeback, reverting to its original grand touring (GT) ethos. This audaciously sizable, potent, and opulent GT vehicle is equipped with a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, delivering 835 horsepower and capable of achieving top speeds of 345 km/h.

The engine maintains the same basic dimensions as the previous V12 from Aston but has undergone significant modifications. To boost both power and torque – an impressive 1,000 Newton-meters – while also adhering to increasingly strict emission standards, the V12 has been equipped with a new engine block, heads, ports, camshafts, connecting rods, turbochargers, fuel injectors, and repositioned spark plugs. Essentially, it's been revamped in every aspect. Aston claims the engine is unrecognizable from its predecessor.
Just like the previous DBS Superleggera, the engine is paired with a rear-mounted eight-speed automatic transmission, but similar to the recent Vantage and the DB12, it now comes equipped with an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.
Boasting an impressive 160 horsepower per liter, this engine represents the peak specific output ever achieved by an Aston Martin V12. The 2024 Vanquish thus marks the pinnacle of an ongoing advancement. Since the launch of the DB7 Vantage in 1999, the performance and torque figures for Aston Martin's premier V12 models have doubled.

The latest V12 engine boasts several cutting-edge features, including a reinforced cylinder block and connecting rods, redesigned cylinder heads that incorporate reprofiled camshafts, and revamped intake and exhaust ports. The spark plugs have been strategically repositioned, and the fuel injectors are upgraded to a higher flow-rate model, enhancing combustion which leads to top-of-the-class power and better efficiency. Moreover, the engine is equipped with new turbochargers that operate at higher speeds with less inertia, contributing to increased power and a more responsive throttle.
In a detailed upgrade, the latest turbochargers have been installed featuring a lower inertia and an increased rotational speed by 15%, enhancing the energy harnessed from exhaust gases, boosting engine power, and elevating the new V12 engine to unprecedented performance levels. Additionally, the introduction of new fuel injectors that deliver a 10% increase in flow rate allows the engine to achieve its peak performance while also meeting emission standards.
The engine also features a novel function called Boost Reserve that allows for an increase in turbo pressure beyond what's needed for partial throttle, giving the driver access to additional turbo pressure when more power is required. This is achieved through meticulous coordination between the throttle and an electronically controlled wastegate. According to Aston Martin, the final drive ratio has been selected to facilitate a high top speed, yet acceleration remains potent – the car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds.
Similar to other contemporary Aston Martin models, the Vanquish boasts a bonded and extruded aluminum monocoque frame. However, unlike the DB12 and Vantage, its body is primarily composed of carbon fiber. Aston Martin reports the dry weight of the vehicle to be 1,774 kilograms. The tires are custom-made Pirelli P-Zero, measuring 275/35 at the front and 325/30 at the rear. Additionally, the car comes standard with forged wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes to maintain control of unsprung weight.
Moreover, the vehicle is equipped with an array of advanced suspension technology. The Vanquish incorporates Bilstein DTX dampers, similar to those found in the latest Vantage and DB12, and also boasts a six-axis inertia measurement unit for more accurate management of the dampers, electronic differential, and traction/stability control systems. Additionally, a novel feature known as Corner Braking has been introduced to maintain rear stability when braking into a turn.
The interior of the Vanquish mirrors the design found in other recent models from Aston Martin, featuring a refreshed center console replete with tactile controls and a custom-designed entertainment system. Previous models from Aston Martin faced criticism for their lackluster insides, but the cabin of the Vanquish appears to be anything but dull.
When compared to the DB12, the Vanquish boasts increased dimensions, being longer and wider, while also having a lower profile. Its wheelbase extends nearly eight centimeters more, the total length has grown by 16.5 centimeters, and it's over six centimeters wider. However, its reduced height contributes to its lower stance. It unmistakably bears the Aston Martin signature look, albeit with a more sculpted bonnet at the front and more pronounced rear haunches.
The distinctive cut-off rear design is a standout feature among the latest offerings from Aston Martin, drawing inspiration from the historical models that raced at Le Mans in the 1960s, such as the DP212, DP214, and DP215. The silhouette and rear aspect also echo the limited edition Valour, which in turn nods to the robust GTs produced by the company in the 1970s. This marks only the third instance of Aston Martin reviving the Vanquish name for one of their vehicles.
In this case as well, V12 engines are still in existence.
Aston Martin has yet to disclose the cost of the upcoming Vanquish, however, it's anticipated that its price tag will be in the range of 250,000 to 300,000 euros. The premium in cost over the other models in the lineup is justified by the limited production run, with the company aiming to produce just 1,000 units annually. Deliveries of the first batch are expected to commence as early as October 2024.
