Cadillac Unveils Sollei EV Concept: A Nostalgic Nod to the Future of Luxury Convertibles
Could Cadillac be considering an electric drop-top for its upcoming lineup?
The unveiling of the Sollei design on Monday suggests that Cadillac may be giving it some thought.
The large convertible takes its design cues from the classic 1950s Cadillac models, but rather than sporting tail fins, it features a streamlined shape that aligns closely with the contemporary design of the top-tier Celestiq hatchback.
The unveiling occurred at Cadillac's customization facility in Warren, Michigan, referred to as Cadillac House at Vanderbilt, which is situated near the dedicated assembly line for the Celestiq.
The Sollei, drawing its name from Sol, the deity of the sun in Roman mythology, is expected to utilize the same Ultium EV platform and battery system as the Celestiq. Cadillac has yet to disclose any details regarding the concept's specifications.
The design of the outside isn't the only element that takes heavy inspiration from the Celestiq. The dashboard also includes the identical 55-inch curved screen seen in both the Celestiq and the Escalade IQ.
The cabin features innovative additions, including the integration of an eco-friendly substance derived from mycelium, the root network of mushrooms and fungi. This leather-esque material is utilized in the Sollei for the cell phone charging station and is also applied to various sections of the dashboard.

Genuine leather upholstery covers the four-seater interior, complemented by seat backs adorned with wooden panels designed to mimic sunlight rays. This leather is dyed in a shade called Manila Cream, a hue Cadillac previously utilized in the late 1950s, and it coordinates with the car's outer color.
Cadillac has not confirmed if the Sollei will go into production. However, the company has given some clues, referring to the concept as a study into the "potential of personalized vehicle design," and an expression of the brand's ambition to present contemporary design in a "convertible style."
If the Sollei goes into production, its price tag is expected to exceed $340,000, similar to the Celestiq. At this price range, the Sollei wouldn't have any immediate rivals, although Rolls-Royce does provide an electric coupe option known as the Spectre.
